What option generates the most income.

Directing potential "visitors / signup´s" to :

1 . A free trial

2 . Let them take a tour.

3 . Direct to the join page.

Well, 1 & 2 are the same, as sites with Free Trials do have tours :)

I'd say it realy all depends on where the traffic is coming from & how you're promoting it.

Direct to the join is tough in today's market IMO unless you are really selling the surfer yourself or maybe from a ppc search engine.

Otherwise a tour is wise with a trial option of some kind. The only time a trial is not needed might be on a niche site that is not all that easy to find. I promote one where my income went up when they dropped the trial. (recurring sponsor obviously)

I always go for the tour.

I prefer PPS with a cheap/free trial

Number 2.

As for free trial it seems that a lot of such users have broadband internet access: they download 5-6 gigs for 3 days & then cancel their memberships.
