WooHoo...Wireless

Well, I have my new laptop and I am running wireless. I tested it out and I can actually go to the top of my driveway with my notebook. My driveway is about 600 feet long :)

Life is good again :)

Cleo 2004-11-28 06:26 PM

Welcome to the 21st century. :D

Everyone that I know down here has WiFi so I can go even further then the end of my driveway.

MrMaryLou 2004-11-28 06:40 PM

I haven't even had a laptop in about 5 years so everything is new to me. It is nice though to be able to go into the living room and still work. I really can't be without power for too long though. I have about 1 hour of battery power with this thing :)

Me too :) I could use my monitor but the 17 inch seems fine.

Congrats! (Is it ok to say I'm a tiny bit jealous? I want one of those especially with the docking station.) Enjoy!

Tart 2004-11-28 09:22 PM

Make sure you secure it! I take mine with me all the time and use it when hubby's driving. Amazing how many people don't secure their shit.

Outside of that I love mine too.. congrats!

new laptop with only 1 hour of battery life?

I suggest getting a hamster with a wheel for backup.

MeatPounder 2004-11-29 01:55 AM

lol@cleo

Tell me about it, all of them broadcast their csids, and most don't even know about encryption...lol

But you really ought to check out the cmda from verizon.
I've had it for a month now, the whole east coast from W palm to South Beach is hot now.
79 bucks a month for unlimited, but I've never had less then 1 meg download sppeed with it. the pc card is only 50 bucks with a one year contract, so you end up with broadband access where ever you are.
I've used it sitting on the boardwalk on Hollywood Beach while having a few drinks, up at a clients in sunny isle who still uses gulp...aol dial up...and needed some large files. Had broadband sitting in Mcguiness up your way during a biz meeting, and while setting up my sisters wirless router up in Boca.

I'm actually thinking of dumping my bellsouth dsl here at home, but the upload is still only 184k on the cmda, and thats a tad slow for uploading my galleries.

Yep, that's what the manual said. I tested it last night and using it normally, I have about an hour :) I think I will be buying another battery or two.

That is the problem with those big cpus, my 1.6 centrino thinkpad runs for about 3-4 hours without problems :)

Cleo 2004-11-29 09:40 AM

I've looked at the Verizon card and it is sweet, even works on a Mac as long as you don't ask them for help it setting it up, but I'm spoiled by my cable modem which has over 1 meg upload and almost 4 megs download. I guess if everywhere I went there wasn't free WiFi then I would get it.

1 hour is insane. Depending on what I'm doing with my laptop I get between 2.5 to 3.5 hours on a battery. I did get an extra battery for when I'm watching DVD on a plane or something but if I RIP the DVD to my hard drive first I can watch a whole movie on one battery without completely draining the battery.

Jim 2004-11-29 09:57 AM

I think the poor batery life is because of the Pentium 4. It must get really hot because there are 3 fans to keep it cool.

Jim 2004-11-29 09:59 AM

On another note, my wife is also wireless now. While she doesn't use a laptop, her PC is really small and everything is built into one unit. After she saw me posting while I was taking a crap, she had to have the same :)

MrMaryLou 2004-11-29 10:27 AM

What a visual Jim on the shitter with a laptop |jester|

Cleo 2004-11-29 10:31 AM

More info then I needed. LOL

I'm sitting here trying to work at my kitchen table. I have everything setup even my 21" monitor but it is still a bitch and I can't wait until later this week when I can move back into my office.

Yep, that is exactly what I was doing. I decided to test it out by taking it with me to check my mailbox by the road :)

tiny 2004-11-29 11:38 AM

Jim 2004-11-29 11:46 AM

Since I don't like to travel, I need as much time as it takes me to go from one outlet to another.

Linkster 2004-11-29 11:59 AM

Finally found out that my telco com had been lying to me and that I could get DSL out here - had to ask the biz offic for a biz account to get it but they made it happen - and it came with free wireless so I jumped on it - anything to get rid of satellite :)

Raja 2004-11-29 04:24 PM

Wait till summer when you sitting on your patio working in the sun. That's when I fell in love with wireless.
Can't beat working with a ice cold beer, enjoying the sunshine and still getting shit done

jaYMan 2004-11-30 02:18 PM

Think you can talk the green one into getting wireless???

I've been trying for years with ZERO luck.

Raja 2004-11-30 02:35 PM

JayMan you know where I am, I can totally get you set up for wireless let me when you want to do it.
