Wondering whats wrong

Hello all! Hope everyone is well. Happy holidays to those who celebrate them. I was reading up a little on VEGAS and it looks like it will be a good time. The wife and I were contemplating making the trip but finances and time constraints have pretty much diluted any chances of that. Hope to maybe make it next year.) To those who have never been to Vegas it is a awesome time. Even if you are not a gambler.(Of coarse going to a porn convention will make anyplace a good time!)

Anyways I am writing to bitch a little or maybe just get some steam out. I have now been in the biz for 1 year. I have learned much in this time and have accrued a respect for adult webmasters. The work is hard,the hours are long and the thrill of looking at porn all day wears off quickly. However i still love doing it and dont plan on quitting. I am just concerned that I am missing something in the game of porn that is holding me back from really having anything to show for all my work. To date I submit atleast 1 free site a day everyday. I HAVE A LARGE DATABASE OF LL's I submit to. I have a 99% approval rating in being accepted at these LL's. Many times I have 3-4 sites in the top 10 of any given category at one time. Sounds great but the reality of it is i have made very little in the last year. As of midnight tonight I have had approx 1571 hits my sponsor with 1 sale. This is the sponsor I have always done the best with. So I dont believe it is a bad one.
I guess I feel alittle discouraged at the moment and was wondering what some of your opinions might be. My url is http://www.naughtybabs.com. It my hub with all my free sites listed. I am slowly going through it and trying to improve it. I have had the sex tracker hit counter on this page since 07/13/04 and have had 7173 total impressions. I know alot of my earlier sites were horrific as.....well no the were horrific period! I have started trading links with other sites in order to boost PR but that is a slow proccess also. I dont expect to become a billionaire from porn....never have expected that. It would just be nice to see more than 1 or two sales a pay period. I remember reading somewhere on cozy that a half decent webmaster can usually make around 8-9 sales a day! I would be just exstatic if i could get 1 sale a day. This would be about $1050.00@35.00 per signup/per month. I think that would probably make me happy as hell.
Well thats about all I have to say for the moment so if you have any advice good or bad lay it on me. Maybe i am just a pissy wolf tonight and need to bitch Thanks everyone for taking the time to read my rantings.

By just looking at the site I got from you today, I'd say that you need to be more in the FACE and sell more.

"Click here to get full access to all our lesbian pics & movies" - in font size small, doesn't cut it.

All your links to the sponsor are small, very small. Nothing sticks out. And the scrolling thing.... drop it :)

I agree with swedguy, the text are real hard on the eyes at 1024x768. Font size should be at least 10px imho. Also about the scrolling thing...why make a link HARDER to click on? :)

Also, I prefer a page not to have too many empty spaces...

One thing that has helped me over the years is always trying new sponsors. Or trying new niches too. I keep to my main ones but am always making sites/galleries for a new sponsor or site within a sponsor I already use.

A new site to your traffic sources might generate more sales. Ratios might be the same BUT if the surfers haven't seen the sponsor from you then the CTR might be a lot higher and you might generate more sales.

binxgook the thing that has helped me the most since I started is attending Mr MarLou's On The Bench sessions every Saturday.

If your not happy with your results, I would make it a point to add it to your routine

Pat has hit it right on the head attend the on the bench chats on saturdays there is much knowledge being shared in those chats

I have to agree about the advertising approach - the sponsor links really need to stand out - one site I looked at (a free site) had a red bkgd and black sales text - that text will get skipped right over by a surfer - as the pic thumbs really stood out on the bkgd - change the text to bright yellow or something like that - remember that you are trying to catch the eye of the surfer with your text - not just giving pics away :)

Look at a Sunday paper with all of those color ad inserts - what catches your eye when you look at them? You are really trying to do the same thing - your free sites are just ads - with a few pics thrown in as filler :) another approach is to look at a Hustler magazine or something along those lines - go to the back in the ad section - again - look at what stands out - what catches your eye immediately!!! - actually any magazine ad will work - youve got about 2-3 seconds to make an impression - thats what the sites need to scream at the surfer - they NEED to go to your sponsor!!!

I'm wanna follow up on what Halfdeck said about text size. We all build our free sites to fit comfortably on a 800px wide screen, but we need to keep the higher resolutions in mind when we pick our font size. What may look large to you at 800 may be just about the right size for the bigger screen rez's. That goes for thumb size too. It kills me to see thumbs that are 90 on the long side. Teeny tiny little thumbs that look like they belong in a locket around your neck.

I think everyone needs to find their own style, but it's always more good to be IN THEIR FACE than not.

i put reminders in my outlook calendar.. and since i run my end of the biz like i would if it was a vanilla straight world, attending OTB is my weekly sales and marketing meeting..

i'm not sure what i'm classifying the tuesday radio show as... but def.. OTB is sales and marketing..
