what's wrong with .info and .biz domains?

just found a strange rule at findpics.net:

UPDATED: November 14th, 2004

IMPORTANT NEWS: I am no longer going to list sites on "off brand" domain groups such as .INFO and .BIZ. Anything that isn't .COM .NET .ORG is at risk.
I don't have any info or biz domains, just wondering what's wrong with them?
maybe this guy simply have too much submissions? :)

Useless 2004-12-17 10:26 PM

Higher amount of cheating from those TLDs.

Cheerful1 2004-12-17 10:44 PM

Sundiver,
MML spoke on the good use of free stuff last week at "On The Bench".
Those domains names were brought up. Thing is that they are free or nearly so. .
Now that could be a good thing but spammers scammers and cheaters always home in on the free things and then abuse the hello out of them.
Tart also pointed out that a small investment such as in the cost of a domain name could indicate your seriousness in the business.
Those domain types should probably be saved for SE stuff ;)

I still have a number of biz and info domains that I bought when they were first released, so I could get a good combination of words e.g. pornforwomen.info has been up and running for about 3 years now.

I can undertand where you're coming from re cheaters but I hope this rule doesn't become standard... you'd be prejudging a site based on it's domain :(

Cleo 2004-12-17 11:28 PM

Same rules here :(

It comes down to me wanting you to spend some money on domains at least if you are going to try to cheat.

This isn't fair at all, just another case of a few fucking it up for all of us.

Since we're discussing this, I've had a few submitters at my TGP that were submitting from the .info versions of popular paysite domains. I personally don't like the practice of buying copy-cat domains for the purpose of stealing traffic from an established site, so I ban them as I see them. Frankly, their galleries sucked too. Am I wrong about this or am I being to touchy?

RawAlex 2004-12-18 01:06 AM

Yup, I put that rule up on findpics about 45 days ago or so. Too many off brand domains (especially .info ) being used as junk houses for the most painful collection of redirects and whatnot. Combined with the fact that you can get them for free, people were using them as disposible domains.

The free part only lasts for one year, and you can bet that they will get trashed when it comes time to pay.

Too many of them have VERY questionable whois records as well, PO boxes in the middle of the east river in New York, with email addresses that either go to hotmail or yahoo.

I got tired of looking at them, I got tired of constantly declining them, and I got tired of having them go 404 with a redirect days after listing.

I feel sorry for the few good people who have them. You suffer because the rest of the people around you are scammers.

Sorry!

.COM domains are $10 each (or less), and there are plent of domains around. Get a real domain, and get a business :-)

Oh, just so there is no confusion, Christy doesnt have that rule yet at apassion4porn.
My response to sundiver was based on what MLM said at "On The Bench". What I have read at certain valued link sites, and lastly my growing personal experience and frustration of late with those domain types while reviewing them.

Ramster 2004-12-18 09:52 AM

If I get a submit from a .info or .biz and it's from someone I do not know I will likely not list it. Only my regular submitters can submit using those extentions.

Jim 2004-12-18 10:00 AM

I don't really get this. I did pay good money for a .info domain and think of it as no less than any other domain I have. I guess I wasn't looking in the right place for free .info domains :)

RawAlex 2004-12-18 03:11 PM

Jim, I didn't look hard, found out according to this thread that dotster was one of them:

http://forums.webhostdir.com/showthread.php?t=10870

Basically I treat .info domains the same way as I treat third level domains - many people PAY for third level domains (pair.com, example) but mostly they are free hosts and scams. So I don't list them.

I have no way to know if a .INFO domain is paid for or not, so I assume not and I work from there. As with Ramster, I am only likely to accept them from known submitters and people I have confidence in.

.INFO domains were not intended for porn, so their use in porn is questionable. I would not be surprised to see the operators of that FLD come down and make life tough, say about this time next year.

Cleo do you make exceptions to this?

I've submitted 20 sites to you so far and just realized that my .info domain is the reason I never get listed. I'm not a cheater though, can you accept my sites please?

Linkster 2004-12-19 09:58 AM

Thats also been an unwritten rule at linkforsex for some time - only people that are in the trusted submitter program have .info .biz etc. domains that get accepted - the rest dont even make it into the submitters que

This site from today
http://www.delightfulxxxpics.info/in...al_lesbians/4/
First thing I see is your description.
"Nice set of lesbian pics, 15 interracial and 15 blonde and brunette. Something for ever"
Besides the fact that you don't even seem to notice that you are putting more in the field then it can contain what part of one sentence do you not understand?

You have blue links on a red background which is hideous.

The submitted site is in a directory named "4" and my rules say that everything must be in that directory or a directory below it but it is not.

The blinking text is really annoying as well.

Begging to be listed in my comments doesn't help you at all. Really the best way to get listed is to actually read my rules and build a nice site.

Linkster 2004-12-19 11:04 AM

I also wouldnt list that site as I dont allow hosted galleries as the gallery pages - http://www.pimpfreepics.com/lex/08/i...=pimp3045&cf=1
That and if youre going to put up a 2257 link (which is not required) it shouldnt have broken images

CrazySy 2004-12-19 11:28 AM

Gallery one http://www.pimpfreepics.com/lex/05/i...=pimp3045&cf=1

Gallery two http://www.pimpfreepics.com/lex/06/i...=pimp3045&cf=1

:D

I never made it as far as the galleries.

I ban people for submitted sponsor's galleries as their own.
