Does anyone go to this NY webmaster thing

Supposed to be in Manhattan in a few weeks..

Greenguy 2003-04-03 09:51 PM

At $1000 per person without air fare - no, I think I will pass - LOL

Ramster 2003-04-03 11:41 PM

It's a little steep on the price. No way I'm going to that.

amber438 2003-04-04 07:24 AM

Reason I asked is cause I live outside of Manhattan and was thinking of going

It'd be interesting to hear how many webmasters attend this 1k event.

(and why)

Greenguy 2003-04-04 10:30 AM

TiBo - my main thing is that I don't think the bride & I spent $2000 on the comvention, the hotel room & the food during 7 days in Vegas in January.

Of course, if you throw in the money we lost at the casino, then you have a completely different total :)

Well I was half thinking of going since I live in NY..but you have all put me off now. lol I should rent out the floor space in my apartment for webmasters who want a cheap place to stay..hmmm...ideas lol

I am thinking the same thing...A grand is just too much cash.

Greenguy 2003-04-04 02:26 PM

Electra - part of the problem is that I don't see an option on their site for just the seminars and/or parties - $1000...errrr....$995 per person is the only choice you have :(

Personally, I think that anyone that can afford that much cash probably doesn't need a seminar - LOL

I think you have a very good point there.
Do you guys think a webmaster conference HAS to have seminars..or do you think a conference put together just for the networking experiences is just as good? And do you think that seminars in their present form are getting bit stale? Perhaps something new is called for.

I think the seminars at Internext & Faye's convention are good - I've sat on a few of the panels & attended a few of them too. But, that's just for learning - we all know the deals are cut at the parties :)

Too noisy to make deals at the parties! I have to shout at the top of my voice just to say hello sometimes lol We did a lot of good business at that seating area in the lobby of the Diplomat at the Hollywood convention. I thought that particular hotel was fantastic for networking with all that seating area.

Seminars are great for asking questions. You have someone in the know that will answer your questions for you.

That said, I don't attend very many. LOL

I think the conventions are for meeting both sponsors and people. You get to chit chat and hopefully make some new friends and make some deals.

Of course there tends to be a few parties with a little alcohol intake going on from time to time too.

I have attended a couple of the seminars. Seemed a bit boring to me..but perhaps it was just my luck to choose topics that didn't lend themselves well to questions. I most enjoy the networking. I think I have met just about everyone I have wanted to meet...including Greenguy a few times:) If I didn't meet you yet...and I am not all that good with names and faces so forgive me if I did meet you...hope to see you and have a drink sometime:)
