UPS vs FedEx

go with fedex :(
My mom sent me some packages with UPS 2 weeks ago, and on the same day my roommate was sent some packages via fedex.

3 days later (standard shipping) he got his, at about 6:30 at night (we were stunned they worked that late)

Its been 2 weeks and i still dont have mine...

I had $10,000 worth of caviar that didn't arrive for a new years eve thanks to Fedex. The truth is they can both fuck up at any time.

We came home from dinner last night to find two boxes were left on your porch by UPS for someone who lives at 31 Garfield Ave. Unfortunately, we don't live on Garfield. The addressee is lucky I'm feeling somewhat xmassy. Normally I would thank the postal gods and keep them myself. |greenguy| But I went trudging out in the down pouring rain last night to find their intended owner who wasn't home and doesn't have a covered porch. So now I have to go back some time this morning to drop them off now that the rain has subsided.

I've recruited for both UPS and Fed-ex while living in Atlanta.. i can tell you.. Fed-ex's training program is 1000X better than UPS.

I was sent a check fed-ex last friday for monday delivery..imagine my surprize that it arrived at like 10am on Saturday morning.. I said to the lady, geeze thanks but i thought it was monday..she said.. if we have it we deliver it. UPS doesn't even work on Saturday.

what surprised me was the USPS and in VEGAS.. of all places where the workforce rolls over every 35 minutes... I was expecting an express mail on Wed. Normally they put it in with the reg mail but nothing came. My door bell rang at 730pm and there was the mail lady with my package.. a few hours late but the fact she was WORKING was amazing to me.

i guess she took the dark of night theory to heart!!

My advice with all these speedy package systems is to walk around your house & property 2 or 3 times before you bother calling them. They have a tendency to leave packages in strange locations :D

Of course, that is assuming you can get a human on the phone with them - I worked at a trucking company fr 8 years & dealt with UPS a lot - never once spoke to a human being on the phone!

I let the dog out yesterday & 30 seconds later I hear him barking up a storm. I look out the window to see the FedEx guy throwing a package from the middle over my dog & onto my pourch. The dog hes never bit anyone - he's just happy to see people - but the delivery guy didn't know that & so my cheesecake was airborn :D

Here's proof against the: If we have it we deliver it. Also, UPS does deliver on Saturday -- for $10 extra. However, until just recently, packages at UPS didn't move on Sunday.

Code:

        FORT LAUDERDALE, FL

Over the years, I've had problems with both -- and both have come through in a crunch. Of the two, I like Fedex better, but I never use them unless it Absitively Posilutely has to be there overnight.

Both are worlds better than the USPS for package delivery -- even though they are more expensive. Any more, I refuse to send a package without a tracking number. I am tired of people claiming they never got it, etc.

USPS overnight delivery is a joke. It gets there the next day, but, if you are not there to sign for it, then it gets delivered in your normal mail. So, a package sent Friday gets there Saturday, but, if you can't sign, you will see it in your normal delivery Monday. And their tracking? Jeesh.

I still find it funny that the USPS tries to say it is not a government agency and uses the .com rather than .gov. 'We receive no subsidies' -- uhh, yeah right, how come FedEx and UPS both have to buy license plates for their vehicles? At $80/license/year, with as many trucks as you have, isn't that sort of a subsidy?

I tend to give them a break during the holiday's since I know they are really busy. However, get the tracking number of your package. With that you can call and get a trace issued -- although if you had done that yesterday, you would probably have the package today. I've had packages incorrectly addressed to a city 1000 miles away (vendor goof), and had an address correction issued and the package delivered the next day -- at no charge to the vendor or me.

And like Greenguy said -- I have found packages around the back of the house on the porch, behind bushes, etc. With the tracking number, you can find out if it was delivered and usually there will be a note on there if it is in an odd place.

Or one of your neighbors is enjoying your holiday package. :)

I worked as a courier, and we did specialized Network jobs. Network deals with the high priority packages that FedEx ships. We were told we could upsell when picking up packages also which would usually save the customer about $100 on their next shipment.
Here's my point: FedEx(probably UPS as well) will send a courier out to expidite a package if you sound like you know what you are talking about. Tell them to get Network on the phone and get a courier out there and get you packages to you!

Here's a nice one. I can't remember which shipping company it was though. I have friends in Vermont (yes I have friends) who are gun nuts. They repack their own ammo. So anyway, they the box with their powder and assorted ammo packing goodies was delivered and left in front of their garage door. Marley came home, hit the garage door button and drove in. She was on her way down their long dirt driveway when she heard some rubbing sounds from her car. She got out and took a look and found the now demolished box of explosives jammed up into her wheel well. He husband has to remove the tire to get the box out of there. Luckily nothing happened to Marley because she's hot.

I ordered a book from Amaz a few days ago with regular shipping.

They stated it wouldn't arrive until after Xmas. OK. No biggie.

Got it today.

Amazon and UPS are very efficient.

I've also ordered stuff shipped via FedEx was was amazed how quickly it arrived.

At the same time, when people are involved there will always be mistakes.

I was pretty PO'd a few years ago when UPS lost a time sensitive medication I ordered.

I did get a person on the phone and they just plain lost it.

Shit happens, but for the most part they do a good job.

My friend's cousin is a driver for FedEx and he has to drive though a few drug areas. He had to learn their various door knocks and signals. Don't think they teach that at FedEx school. :)
