How many text links?
 

I'm reading fairly regular guidelines for galleries saying 2 banner links to sponsor per page.

What's important to TGPs making this judgement -

1) they don't want lots of sponsor graphics distracting from the thumbs?

or

2) they don't want lots of outgoing links detracting from their reciprocal (in PR terms)?

If I'm not using any sponsor graphics at all, but am using a good deal of text alongside the thumbs, what will TGP owners accept most:

a) More than two separate words or phrases linked to sponsor (3? 5? 10?)

or

b) Whole sections of text linked to sponsor, but with only individual words/phrases underlined etc to look like links.

... are they much more relaxed about linked text - or insist on only 2 words/phrases linked per gallery?

Sorry for the inquisition, but I might as well get this as right as possible first time.

That is how I do it.

Many of the TGPs have scripts checking your page so more then a few links will get you kicked.

My TGPs have two links plus the counter plus three recips.

That's the version I'm favoring. One reason the question cropped up is because of a chain of events:

Keeping page width < 800 pixels ...
Increasing thumb sizes to reduce full-size clicks ...
Up to 18 thumbs on some galleries ...

Was leading me to a format with 3 groups of 6 pics, each with a block of text alongside, so I'd end up with in total:

18 thumbs linked to full size pics
3 sponsor-linked text blocks
1 copyright text linked back to my hub

How comfortable are TGP owners with that ?

18 thumbs are too many in my opinion.

You are going to get counted as having 4 links which is going to be a problem, especially if you add a counter to the page.

Using a similar structure I link two of the "text blocks" to sponsor, and leave one as unlinked text.

This gets accepted most places.

Yep Bill - that's what I'm fixing up now ...

One unlinked block with chatty text and keywords to strike up a relationship, 2 blocks related to and linked to sponsor.

Cleo - I'm not using a counter (got great server stats) and I'm doing 12, 15 and 18 pic versions for different places, but wanted to change as little as possible between them - of course!
