Link List Owners - 404
Do you care about what the 404/error pages of the domains the freesites are hosted on contain?
I always get a lot of freeloaders who try changing the url a bit to get more free porn and I want to make the best use out of this traffic by using some tricks on such pages. Thanks :) |
You have to be VERY careful if you are using agressive 404 techniques to be sure 110% that everything on your site is up to snuff. Nothing pisses me off more as a reviewer than to click on a thumb, and instead of a pic, I get mousetrap back button kills my browser hell.
What do you have in mind, exactly? Alex |

Pretty much what RawAlex said. :)
Personally I send my 404 traffic to a nice page with no popups. |
BTW contraband
Your sig is not loading since it is trying to load from a banned domain so it is making the board hang as it tries to load it. :( Please change it. :) |
What Alex and Cleo said....
Nice page with No BS, no pops, no crap... If they are truly surfers looking for short cuts.. you are unlikely to make a sale If you have 404s fix em! DD |

If you have any ideas on how I can make better use of this traffic, please let me know :) Thank you |
One idea is to send them to a page targetted to the niche of the page they were snooping in.
ie: if it's a lesbian free site and they're snooping for pic021.jpg for example, load up a 401 or 404 page with a title like "My secret Lesbian stash.." or something like they feel they've stumbled onto something good. Then present some good no BS marketing to some "favorite" members sites or whatever. A neat scripting idea would be to have the error page actually pull a pic from the set they were just viewing, and match it to a pay site that has "tons more like this..". Just imagine where they are, where you know they've been, and give them basically what they want.. provided they pay for it this time :) hehe |
I have index protection so that any directory that does not have an index of its own displays a page that shows the directory as empty. I also like to place a blank index in my image directories that meta refreshes to sponsor for anyone routing around where they shouldn't be. That way it doesn't screw with normal surfers just going about their business.

I read on this board if you have no mistakes you wont need a 404 :D
If you do... fix it |
