What do you think about linklists that list both freesites and galleries?

?

Not sure what you are looking for here. DangerDave, Cleo and Richard are threee among others that do both. I think they are fine folks and their sites are good also

Fido 2005-01-30 08:39 AM

I am sure they all are fine folks :) My question was about a business model of such a site. If there are any negatives or positives... I am thinking about building a linklist so this is why I am asking.

Chop Smith 2005-01-30 08:55 AM

Fido, my point is that it is being done by folks in the know and to attempt to say in a tactful manner that your question needs to be more specific in order to get quality feed back.

Ramster 2005-01-30 09:29 AM

Not sure what you are looking for. I know many that do that. I think it fine to do.

Fido 2005-01-30 11:05 AM

I am sorry, I know my question should be more specific, but with my poor expirience at this field I can not imagine any concrete negatives. But I think there must be some. Why else do not all of linklist "big players" place TGP section at their sites. It would cost them almost nothing and they could "steal" a nice part of TGP traffic...

Greenguy 2005-01-30 11:07 AM

I do have a section that I call Greenguy's Galleries but it's mostly my stuff & sponsor hosted galleries & oddly enough, is not that popular - LOL

I didn't add a galleries section to We Love Free Porn as I was concerned too many buyers would start clicking though gal pages and rub one out... instead of concentrating on the freesites and buying like they are supposed to do! So that's a possible negative... dunno if it's truely a worry though.

I put a gallery section on Sleeks to try it.
http://www.sleekssickestporn.com/galleries/ the thumbnail links run through the remote thumbs system which counts about 1200 clicks per day... which seems rather pathetic to me from 6-7k daily uniques to the site.... I dont know why, but linklist surfers just dont seem to go for gals for me.

DangerDave is the only one I know that lists both galleries and free sites together rather than separating them into two distinct sections. I've been considering that model for my next big site, but I have been cautious thus far. I'm probably gonna expcept free site subs, but not galleries. I would just pull in the galleries I already have listed at my other TGP simplify it by listing FHGs. I'm still tinkering with my top secret script to make it all work right though.

It's all very hush-hush. |pimpin

I would list galleries, but I would rather not deal with a mountian of autosubmitted crap. I do mix FHG's in my listings. I don't really think it makes a difference to the surfer at all if they see a waring page or not.

y'all should accept galleries, then insert an FPA with a "title", "warning" and "enter" link before them.. oops, did I say that outloud? |tomato|

shhh, dont tell anyone

neticule 2005-01-31 01:13 PM

hmm

on my linklist i list free sites (that others submit) and galleries from sponsors (free hosted galleries). I dont allow people to submit galleries, only free sites. but most sponsors dont have free hosted free sites so i ended up just putting some fhg's in there...

There are up sides and down sides to it, but i wont accept submissions, because, like jay said, i dont want to deal with all the autosubmitted crap lol.

Ummm, don't forget Tommy... he lists all sorts of things... :-)

Greenguy 2005-01-31 03:51 PM

Yeah - I'm really surprised there aren't full size images loading throughout Tommy's pages :D

caringneo 2005-01-31 10:13 PM

Tommy lists the galleries and free sites in a nice way. He mention the freesite as "Two nice galleries of ..........". Surfers will be interested to see 2 galleries instead of one I guess.

IMHO, If you start a seperate section for galleries and promote them, your bookmarkers will mostly turn into it. But the SE traffic which is coming to category pages might never see it. Good for sales!
Mixing up and listing will not hurn in my opinion.

I love sites that list both, such as Tommy's. It gives me greater latitude as a submitter. It doesn't matter if I build a gallery or a free site, I can still submit to the same place that gives me good traffic.

Which has kind of been a thing for me, and one I'm resolved to do better on in 2005...throw more free sites in the mix of gallery building.
