Never heard of him.
Is he that guy in the movies who can lick his own ass?

jhussher 2005-02-15 08:24 PM

I listened to about 20 minutes of the show tonight and turned it off. It was an argument, the Butcher guy had decided not to do the show, I guess. One third of the way through the show and I hadn't heard anything instructive or useful at all, just Jim wrangling with butcher about reneging on his promise to do the show and how they were going to play a telephone conversation that had been recorded instead...yadda...yadda...yadda....this was my first time listening, I just missed it last week. Does it get any better than this? Sheesh...

Dagwolf 2005-02-15 09:36 PM

I doubt that was a prime example, jhussher... it's the first one I've managed to catch too, but GG & Jim didn't build their reputations on drama...

Greenguy 2005-02-15 09:49 PM

Tonight's show was not an example of how the show usually is - this one was one of those that you had to be paying attention around here & have listened to the entire show to know what was going on.

That being said, as a whole, I think it was the best show we've ever done :)

Jim 2005-02-15 09:56 PM

It was the easiest, I will say that much :)

cd34 2005-02-15 10:10 PM

well, sorry I missed it -- had to take some people from NYC out to dinner.

Jim, you would have loved the place:

They bring the meat around on swords...... and keep serving until you say stop. :)

I can find my own shits and giggles here locally. I'm not against fun or whatever. But I visit and participate in webmaster forums for business reasons, and I attended the radio show for the same reason. Time is money. I wouldn't continue visiting a board that never had a useful thread, so why would I listen to a radio show from a board that wasn't useful, at least as far as I stayed with it (one third of the way)?
You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.

And I really think Blue Quartz is coming on a little strong with his "nobody owes you anything in life" rant. Fact is, if a board is being run for the instructive benefit of its members, as I believe this board is, it is reasonable for me to believe that the weekly reminder emails I get about its radio show are as advertised and going to be worth my time and instructive as well. If one advertises it, then, yes, one does "owe" the readers/listeners what it says in its ad. (And please don't go off on a rant that I am accusing anyone of false advertising or any sort of deception!!!) I thought the portion of last night's show that I did listen to didn't deliever, and didn't seem to be leading up to delivering anything worth listening to any further.

I'll listen again in future, time permitting. But last night, after 20 minutes of the show wandering all over the road...time no longer permitted. Plus it was my birthday, friends were coming over, so I left the listening audience at that point.

I'm going to be there, it was my great pleasure talking to GreenGuy and Jim earlier this afternoon on the phone. Lets have an open and honest discussion next Tuesday and some fun if possible.

See you guys later.

Thanks
how can this guy say things in public and not do it?

What part of the email was a lie?

And it's not really fair to judge a 90 minute show based on you listening to 20 minutes of it.

Jim 2005-02-16 09:54 AM

I hate doing the radio show...maybe we should stop :)

jhussher 2005-02-16 10:02 AM

Well, I knew it would get misconstrued. I specifically said don't accuse me of accusing y'all of false advertising. I was trying to explain that to the average webmaster, the purpose of visiting a board (including participating in its activities such as the radio show) is to learn, or teach or display their sig or something constructive and that is going to benefit their business, enhance their skills, etc.

And since The Butcher apparently was not willing to do the show last night (to the point where y'all said you would run a tape from a telephone call in lieu of his actually being present for the show)....the show was not as advertised in that sense, through no fault of yours, I understand.

And last week the show was going off at 8:56 p.m. so I thought it would only be an hour show this week as well.

I don't think 20 minutes is unreasonable to decide if something is worth continuing to listen to or watch. Just as in writing, wherein one wants to "hook" the reader immediately or risk boring him and losing him. Jeez, we are told that our sites need to load quickly or bored surfers will click out and move on.

I think the gist of what I am saying is fairly obviouls and reasonable.

Blue Quartz, you don't need to "remind" me of my right to not listen to something I don't like. I know how to operate a remote control and change the channels a long time ago.

"I came...I listened...I was bored...I left."

Greenguy 2005-02-16 10:09 AM

We never claimed that the radio show was some sort of learning experience :D

The show, in a nutshell, is basically like listening to a phone conversation between Jim & myself. We haven't had guests on for a long time - these last 2 weeks almost being the exception, but he canceled both times a couple hours before the show.

There are some really good shows in the archives - the one with MarcDe from ARS is probably the best one - especially if you listen to it now (almost 1 year later)

There's some real dud's in there too - like the now infamous "Quiz Show"

Bottom line is that we talk openly about whatever hot topics are on the board & the last few weeks, it's been this SponsorChat crap.

Next week we'll be back to normal & spewing out our mindless dribble :D

jhussher 2005-02-16 10:13 AM

Fair enough. I know you never claimed it was supposed to be a learning experience, I just (reasonably or am I crazy??) "assumed" i would be. Because I do enjoy your board and find it very helpful.

Jim 2005-02-16 10:13 AM

Mindless Dribble??? We will have plenty of useful information to talk about. Jesus, the first show after the start of the new Survivor. Watch your tongue :)

I think the radio show needs a "Crank Yankers" segment each week. You
know, call Dangerdave at 4 am and pretend to be his hosting company... tell
him all his sites are being pulled because of the large amount of naked sheep photos.

|horse|

Cleo 2005-02-16 10:42 AM

I second that one. :D
