Do you see yourself ever retiring?

Do you see yourself ever retiring? I know so many younger webmasters "getting by" and have been for many years now, but they really have no future game plan or large savings. For those who've worked career jobs most of their lives before doing adult, do you think retirement would be possible without the help of that carreer job you had?

Greenguy 2005-02-16 02:11 PM

I'd say that 90% of my retirement savings have come in the last 6 years (since I quit my real job)

But I can't really ever see myself "retiring" as this isn't like real work to me, because I enjoy it too much :D

Useless 2005-02-16 04:12 PM

Retire? Hell no. I don't want to be a greeter at Walmart.

Chop Smith 2005-02-16 04:15 PM

To retire one must be gainfully employed.

Verbal 2005-02-16 04:44 PM

Well, as much fun as this is, I'd like to retire at some point eventually. I guess I will have to see how my rebills are doing once I reach retirement age. :)
I wonder if any sponsors will offer 401K plans someday.

Cleo 2005-02-16 05:02 PM

I don't plan on retiring.

I mean what am I going to do if I retire? Sit around and watch my brain atrophy from lack of use?

This isn't physical work. It isn't like it is really work at all.

Anyway I would miss the boards too much. It isn't like I have a real life that I enjoy more then my virtual one.

Last thing I want is to be one of those that used to be in the biz and now just hang out on the boards being useless.

The challenge of extracting money for the accounts of the horny masses gives meaning to my life.

yes i will retire some time, i am not planning to sit behind my puter till i am 80...nop nop

Jim 2005-02-16 05:16 PM

I don't think I will retire. I would like to get to where everything just runs itself though :)

Linkster 2005-02-16 05:34 PM

I guess Im in a kinda unique situation, as about 4 years ago I did retire from my "real" job (took an early retirement package) and since this fun/job was already paying me way more than my corporate job - I just kept at this - and like most have said - this to me is not really a "job" - its way too much fun to sit by the pool and type on the laptop while drinking a marguarita or lounging back in the hottub while uploads and updates finish up :)

I got so many health problems (at the moment I am on 5 different types of pill, some twice a day, and the doctor is threatening to add 2 more), and as a general rule I get doctor and hospital appointments whenever I need them, no waiting (i.e. I am listed as an urgent case). So I think it is extremely unlikely that I will live long enough to retire.

Hell I'll consider myself lucky if I get to the end of this post bef

Lol definitely retiring.

Plan to be fully retired by 35, sites either on autopilot, managed by employees, or at the very worst sold. Want to get into property :)

MrMaryLou 2005-02-17 08:19 AM

Retire? Never this is way too much fun :)

ladydesigner 2005-02-17 08:36 AM

I always said I'd retire from the porn biz when I started having kids.... seeing as how I've now got 3 and a 4th on the way, I need to do this now more than ever!

ynuahayt 2005-02-17 10:10 AM

Probably too early for me to talk about this, I'm only 18 you know! But I'll keep going at this for many years to come, this is way too fun and cool right now for me to quit, I'm working constantly :P

I agree with Jim's answer. But I'm not anywhere close to retiring. |king|

I have a freedom number (as I call it) that I am working towards. Once I attain that, I can stop doing what I need to do to earn a living, and do what I want to do.

Retirement for me is an annual salary of 4% of my freedom number and doing the types of projects that I don't have time to do now.

I'm working on my second million, having given up all hope of obtaining the first million. WC Fields

Kath 2005-02-17 02:51 PM

I don't think I'll ever retire... as long as the biz is still here - I'll be here.

Retire? That is a nice concept for sure, but it just isn't highly likely. We have moved to Cancun, live on the beach, love it and the weather, but still work alot. Not that I'm complaining, we love to work and we have been able to enjoy our new life here for sure. But I can't imagine not working |yawn| Work is just the way it is :)

LOL Ecchi.
Ecchi??? Hello???
:D

I'm waiting for Larry Flynt to buy us out for several million dollars, then I'll retire :)

If I had my health I'd want to keep doing this forever, but as working on a computer means I'm slowly crippling myself, it would be good to semi-retire, and just do a couple of days a week for fun.

Give me time, I'll get there |bananna|

Mishi 2005-02-18 03:29 AM

I hope to "retire" to doing other things I love that have been neglected while we build this business; specifically, writing and gardening. Doubt I'll give up the biz any time soon. Like others, I would like to eventually reach the point where the business is more or less tending itself, requiring only my occasional magic touch. ;)

That's not a reachable goal if you're working for someone else...so, here I am!

Dr Bizzaro 2005-02-18 08:27 AM

I thought this was retirement.

Greenguy 2005-02-18 09:07 AM

Good Point! I retired Dec 8 1998 :D

Shannon G 2005-02-18 10:40 AM

Someone would have to pry my fingers off my mouse, demolish my office, and brainwash me that the internet no longer exists to get me to "retire". lol

I love my job and every year I'm in this industry, I'm happier and happier. Right now, we're building a new house in a golf course community so I'll have a kick-ass office to WORK my ass off in... and then lots of ways right in my neighborhood to PARTY my ass off. Best of both worlds, imho.

However, my goal is to be set up well enough with our other investments that my man can retire from his 9-5 life and manage them "full-time" instead... as well as be my full-time man-slave. |thumb
