What the differance between anime & hentai?

Seriously?

Can people tell by looking at them?

Thumbler 2005-03-07 06:30 PM

According to dictionary. com, Anime is 'A style of animation developed in Japan, characterized by stylized colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sex' whereas Hentai is 'sexually explicit animation or comics'

So it looks like Anime can be violent but Hentai isn't.

To me, they are both just cartoons fucking :D

MrMaryLou 2005-03-07 06:40 PM

Where is Bestat? If I remember correctly Hentai tends to be hardcore

Bill 2005-03-07 06:41 PM

No...

Anime is animation, specifically for video or televison.

Hentai is sexual cartoon art, designed for the huge Japanese market for printed cartoon porn.

Anime can be sexualized, but doesn't have to be.

Hentai is always sexualized- well, not in every drawn scene, but in general, it's printed cartoon porn.

I **think** it is a slight difference in the style of animation, like one is more rounded and curvy while the other is more jagged looking....but I am not really sure. Hopefully an expert will come in and help us all out.

cheers,
Luke

oops, bill it looks like you posted the answer as I was typing my response.

Jim 2005-03-07 06:57 PM

Looks like the biggest difference is the spelling

Bill 2005-03-07 07:02 PM

The word "hentai" means 'pervert'- the explanation I was given is that the name comes from the high school girls riding on trains and buses with working guys, who would constantly be reading the cheap cartoon porn that is everywhere in japan. The schoolgirls would call the guys and the comics "hentai", pervert, and the name stuck and came into common use.

There's a ton of the stuff in every newstand and in vending machines, with all kinds of bizarre sub-niches.

Greenguy 2005-03-07 07:40 PM

Oh - what about the other one - "magna" I think?

dallasdeb 2005-03-07 08:19 PM

Apparently 'manga' is the Japanese word for comics, so i guess hentai manga would basically mean dirty comics

dallasdeb 2005-03-07 08:28 PM

.....unless of course you really meant 'magna' which in Australia is a type of car. In the UK there is a science center called Magna. Then there is always the Magna Carta........ :D

Greenguy 2005-03-07 08:43 PM

dallasdeb - if you confuse me anymore I'm gonna have to have words with your better half :D

Bestat 2005-03-07 09:01 PM

Well, it seems like I got here a bit late :) The explanations given above pretty well cover it, but for a little more detail and clarification I will add this:

Anime: In the US and many other western nations, it is limited to meaning Japanese animation (AKA Japanimation, although a lot of people don't like that term). Characteristic features would be large eyes, funky hair colors, and often, er, accentuated physiology. In Japan, anime means animation in general, Warner Brothers, Disney as well as Macross and El Hazard.

Hentai: The classical meaning is "metamorphosis, transformation." It later came to mean "abnormality," and in modern colloquial Japanese is used almost exclusively to mean "pervert" or "perversion." In adult anime, hentai normally would lend itself to what we consider hardcore images, such as the very popular bondage anime images. In the Adult market Anime has come to signify more softcore images and Hentai hardcore.

Manga: This is what comics are called in Japan. The artist Hokusai coined the word manga in 1815, usually translated to mean "irresponsible pictures." Traditionally drawn in black and white, sometimes with blue inks mixed in, Manga can be action comics, love stories or even hardcore fantasy.

:)

Sure, leave it up to Bestat to clear things up :)
Thanks dear!!

(GG and dallasdeb, you'll have to meet on the playground after school.)

I have always wondered what the difference is.

Thanks, bestat!

Google stuff...

Results 1 - 10 of about 21,200,000 for anime
Results 1 - 10 of about 16,800,000 for manga
Results 1 - 10 of about 7,470,000 for hentai

Keywords.....Clicks / Day.....Avg. CPC.....Cost / Day.....Avg. Position
anime............1,700.0............$0.05.........$85.00.............1.4
hentai..............810.0............$0.05.........$40.50.............1.6
manga..............370.0............$0.05.........$18.50.............1.4

Just adding another difference between the words... ;)

Glad Bestat popped by to clarify... was scrambling to find all those articles she'd written for our newbie areas many, many moons ago.

RevSassy - check out http://www.exclusivemediagroup.com - I don't remember if Bestat offers content here for promo, but if you want to promote sites where someone actually knows the niche and knows how to sell it well, this is one of the best places to send your traffic.

Ok, as far as submitting goes here is the real "simple" answer :)

anime - softcore images in the japanese style (see above explanation)
hentai - hardcore images in the japanese style (see above explanation)
comics - Just like the funny papers :) only adult content
toons - american style images, tentacle stuff, etc.
cartoons - images with punchlines or text
manga - japanese comics

Hope that helps!
