I think its a vbulletin hack, i searched around a bit and there is indeed a hack, but it works off of a tag, kind of like [ b ] bold text here [ / b ] for bold in vBulletin. The thing is GG and crew can make the tag whatever they damn well please so I'd imagine its just a "secret word". The original hack is set up to use [you] but I tried it and it doesn't work, and theres also one where the tag is {bbusername} or something like that but it doesn't work either, so.. your guess is as good as mine. [gabbo] maybe? :p

Nope, not [gabbo] :). I'm sure there's a reason only GG, Jim and a few others are able to do it.. it would get annoying real quick if everyone knew how ;).

Try ~ ~username~ ~ and just take out the spaces between the two ~ ~.
