Yet another thread about dealing with hot linkers
 
It's probably well over a year since I did any submitting, so I don't have too much of a problem with hotlinkers. I'd like to start submitting free sites soon, and I'd like to take some precautions against hotlinking. My idea is to throw up a replacement image that contains a text message like "Get some hot ass at www.AssKey.com" AssKey is one of my unused domains of course.

Do you think this is a good idea? Bearing in mind the type of sites that hotlink images, do you think I should promote email and free join sponsors on the AssKey site? Do you think that www.AssKey.com is a good domain for this type of project?

BINGO! Just make it a good image and an easy domain and you're good to go.

yup that is a great way to deal with hotlinkers. you can even make it easier by dropping the www part, nice and short and easy to type!

Maybe even throw some text on there stating that the hotlinking site is doing something very very bad by implying that they may be crooked and the surfer may not want to be there. Make the surfer feel as if they should not be comfortable at that site.

Pull out the webmaster guerilla tactics.

I like that idea - make the surfer feel that if they steal from webmasters, they'll steal from him and mess with his computer. :)
