Submitter whom use Spam Arrest - discuss
 

Link list and TGP owners - what are your thoughts on opening up your email to find that submitters are filtering the addy they use for submissions with Spam Arrest? As |greenguy| has said, I'm an angry poster. But really, I'm an angry person in general. I'm easily irked. So when my acceptance email to someone triggers that auto-genarated Spam Arrest notice, I'm irritated. Am I wrong to be bothered by that? Also, do you click the link in the Spam Arrest email or do you just delete it?

I dont see much of a problem with it, if its a FEW submitters, but once i have to click that spam arrest link more then 2 or 3 times a week I will start to get annoyed :P

however, they really should have set up a seperate email account for submissions that doesnt use spam arrest IMO

Your choice not to click it, they just wont know if they are listed or declined, thats their own fault! :D

I ignore them. Too busy to check the mail and be sure that it isn't some phishing scam or something, etc.

Personally, I find challenge-response emails particularly irritating. I ran Spamassassin and then if the score was 2+, it would run TMDA which would do a human verification auth request. I got almost no spam. And I found that people found it confusing to reply or hit a link for mail to be delivered, so, I was missing those messages too. Mailing lists and autoreply boxes were problematic at best.

TMDA could also do things like have email addresses that were temporary, or assigned to a particular email address, etc. So, I could set up an account like mcduw.a09d93fa@domain.com (it would generate it) and it would only accept mail from uselesswarrior@domain.com, and I could choose whether it dropped or requested verification if someone else used it.

Spamgourmet is another one. You could set up an address like mcd.4@domain.com, and it would allow 4 emails to come through to that box, and trash anything after that.

I can see why people would use it -- submitting to many TGPs/linklists is liable to get your email handed off to dozens of spam factories, however, its a delicate mix.

In reading this, I realize I said almost nothing in relation to your question.

I guess, if you don't like it, delete them. Maybe look at the submissions to see if it is worth it. You could make it a new rule. :)

I figure at least that means they have used a genuine email address that they probably read.

The people that submit as webmaster@TodaysDomainName.com for every new domain they use shit me 500 times more.

Has Opti hit it on the head - at least they are using a genuine address responsibly.

Actually the fault is with the spammers, and those that supply them with their tools, sponsorship and comsumables.

Thanks for your replys folks. My gut feeling is that the submitter is doing that so that they don't receive our emails, or more importantly, MY emails. Filthy bastard. I'm not going to click the link in the email. I'm going to print it, tack it to the wall, and flick boogers at it.

I usually click them & get on their confirmed list so that when I want to spam them in the future, I'm all set :D

I agree with Shemp. You shouldn't be using an email that needs to be filtered. Deal with it somehow or don't submit to me or use a different email for submitting.

One guy had my email blocked and he was submitting to me. Bye bye.

Actually the best thing I ever did was to go partner only, put an end to all this crap.

You would be surprised by how many spamarrests we get here. Either the newsletter or the board. Most times we just click the link and get approved.

My only problem with such a service is when surfers start using it. What happens when they sign up for a site and the processor's email doesn't get through? I don't think any processor goes through the hassle of getting approved.

Tommy - they pay to submit to you, so the least you could do is click on their email verification link :D

My script uses confirmation emails for each submission, and on the "thank you" page there's a warning instructing them to make sure any email spam filters are already set to accept my email, and that unconfirmed submissions never get reviewed. I have yet to get one bounced back by spamarrest, and if I do that will be one submission that never gets confirmed or reviewed. :)

I don't see why people still use SpamArrest.

Bayesian spam filtering is very advanced and filters all my spam junk mail, and hasn't had a single false positive thus far.

I was getting a lot of spamarrest emails because some spammers were spoofing some of my email addresses into their spam. I got tired of that, especially since I didn't send the original emails myself, so I added spamarrest to my own filters. Now I don't see those anymore. I figure anyone too lazy to maintain their own filters probably isn't worth exchanging emails with anyway.

Unfortunately we know that some TGP owners sell the email addresses of submitters. So if a submitter wants to protect themselves against that then I think it's OK but they have a better option.

After many years of being shit Spam arrest finally has the ability to allow white lists on a domain level. Basically before the surfer submits to Shemp then they should white list shemp.com so any email coming from him, his reviewers, his scripts and so forth will be automatically approved. Making Shemp do that work is WRONG when the submitter can do it.

Of course if Shemp sends an email from some other domain then that's a different issue but if the email comes from shemp.com then they should be blacklisted for being too lazy to use their spam product properly ;)

I use spam arrest but typically when sites are submitted, but I will login to spam arrest unverified box and peek through it looking for stragglers, so I dont leave it up to you guys to verify the email. Spam Arrest has saved me like 1000+ spams a day, and not having something in place would be a pain in the ass.
