Yeah, unfortunately taxes are one of life's necessary evils. As my father used to say whenever mom would get on his case to do work around the house:

"All I have to do is die and pay my taxes."

That about sums it up. Hope this year goes better for you. :)

yeah, life's like this :/

btw: how are the taxes in colorado?

I hate taxes just a royal pain in the ass since i always owe hahaha.I haven't had a refund in like 10yrs it seems haha.Great now I think tonight will be a drink and forget night haha.

I got a huge refund this year. :D

Greenguy 2005-04-13 01:45 PM

Mine have been done for 2 months. I got $3000 back form NY State & owed $2500 on my Federal taxes. So I hurried up & sent in my State paperwork & prayed that my refund got here before the 15th.

It came in last week, so now I get to enjoy my $500 refund :D

Florida has no state income tax. :P

I always figure, if you get a refund, you were giving the state/country a 0% interest loan with your money. Pity that the government isn't nearly as generous if you owe and are subject to penalties.

However, each year, somehow I have still overpaid my estimated taxes and end up getting something back which is applied to my first quarter estimated. Then, sometimes I get a few hundred back after that.

Cleo 2005-04-13 02:58 PM

Since I really suck at saving money I overpay my withholding so that I'll get something back. I know that I'm giving the government free use of my money but it does force me to save something.

That and I had a very nice tax write off this year due to nature deciding that I was over due for a home remodel.

stuveltje 2005-04-13 05:26 PM

as usual i have to pay....alot

Cleo 2005-04-13 05:48 PM

Actually this is the first year that I didn't owe money.

I adjusted my business's paychecks to me withholding allowance to allow for the other sources of income that I have paid to me personally that I do not pay taxes on at the time of receiving them so that I didn't end up owing a bunch of money in taxes at tax time again like what happens to me each year.

Then we had a hurricane and I borrowed money on the house to remodel and had a loss from the storm so I have some nice deductions now. :)

I do think that I'm going to leave my withholding where it is so that I get money back again next year. I'll just look at it as the I Can't Save Tax.

You know, this is the 1st year since I went "porn" that I didn't have to pay State taxes at the end of the year & this is the lowest that I've paid the feds. I've been thinking about this for 2 months & it simply means that I'm not doing as good as I have in the past years (owing money just means that I made a lot)

That part scares me a bit.

cd34 2005-04-14 12:19 AM

With tax preparation costs included, my effective tax rate this year was 4.71%

in 2002, I think it was about 7.7%. In 2000 I think I was at 28.1% (including 6 months of Maryland residence). Don't just file taxes with your accountant -- use him for tax planning. I send mine my quickbooks files every quarter and he lets me know where I am, what I need to do to get where I want to be.

people say that yep. what bugs me for awhile is that i am already in th 50% taxes so all i earn i have to give 50% away to taxes the dollar went very low in value and their was an certain moment that i realy thought to quit bizz because for every 160 dollars i would get 100euro and from those 100 i may give away 50....ackkk i hate netherland

Verbal 2005-04-14 11:14 AM

Just got my taxes done last night finally... and, I'm actually getting a refund too. :) That happens almost never... or maybe just on leap years... I'm sure there's a pattern here somewhere.
