Say No To Mouse Overs ???

Is this just a rumor or a trend no mouse overs in tgp galleries ??

Cleo 2003-10-25 08:17 PM

I've always gotten listed without problem as long as my mouseover looked like a normal URL and showed where the surfer will be going.

I really think it is going to hurt sales if me start have the status bar showing a bunch of affiliate code that is basically completely blind.

Surfn 2003-10-25 08:23 PM

Haven't heard that yet. If it's becomes prevalent it one more shot in foot of those tgp owners.

There have always been rules against mouseovers but they are meant for blind links. As long as the surfer goes to where the link says http://pornpornporn.xxx it makes no sense to have someone add their affiliate code.

You both said what I am thinking but I heard a few whispers about I hope they post here soon :)

Banning mouseovers is plain stupid!! It'll hurt business!

Reviewers can look at the links (like they should be) when they review. If the mouseover says something it shouldn't then decline, otherwise they are fine. I don't want the surfer seeing this http://refer.ccbill.whatever as he may think popups, I'm not going there.

But when they see the actual domain they're going to they click it more often.

PicHunter has banned OnMouseovers and I have to remove them from the galleries I submit to him. Such is life for one site, so no biggie.

I dont mind them in galls to me..

I use them in galls to others..

and I havent seen places rejecting galls because of them... yet....

I am thinking the problem maybe more that just mouse overs for sponsor codes I have seem some heavy masking going on with making galleries sites ect and using hosted content covered with mouseovers and a few other clever codes

I know of at least 5 or 6 sites I submit to who don't allow any MouseOvers anymore! PicHunter was the first (almost 2 years ago)! I basically dropped them now all together because I received too many rejections by scripts.

Oh how I hate that no mouseovers rule. I understand no mouseovers being used on thumbs, but I dont see a problem with using them over URLs to hide your ref code. I cant believe pichunter, madthumbs, and cowlist do not allow mouseovers/javascript. They are great TGPs and I'd love to be submitting too them but I'm way to busy to be making different versions of all my galleries just for them.

So what everyone is saying its just limited to a small group of tgps and not a growing trend ?

Madthumbs and Cowlist list my galleries almost daily and I use onmouseover for them.

That's my thinking on this subject.

Cleo 2003-10-29 08:53 AM

This is right up there with some of the smaller TGPs that have banned all counters or min pic size is 50K.

It is not like conversions from TGP traffic is all that great to begin with and, except for a few select ones, TGPs are like a box of tissues in that there is always a bunch more after the last one that you just used.

I used to use mouseovers on everything sponsor related.... and I suddenly stopped using them about four months ago.

Sales stayed the same. Which amazed me. Not a controlled experiment, but I think maybe 50% of surfers actually know what the status bar is.

I am about to start using mouseovers again.
