What came first? LLs or TGPs?

I am so curious and lucky at the same time because if someone knows the answer I can find that person here :)

Greenguy 2005-04-22 07:23 AM

Back in the day, everyone just linked to anything they found - there were no "free sites" or "galleries" as defined by today's terms. LOR linked to both (using today's definitions) for about a year or so.

PK & Richard have always been "Link Lists" as far as I know - AL4A & The Hun have always been "TGP's" - but back then, no one knew those terms so we all just had sites that linked to porn :)

digifan 2005-04-22 07:28 AM

Thanks for the info... so if someone asks me who invented the tgp as such I can mention the above names?

digifan 2005-04-22 07:29 AM

Including LOR of course.

Actually, you're going to have to take Greenie's words with a grain of salt. I suggest that you go HERE and read the sentence just below the site logo. That is the earliest date I've seen and it involves two respected names in the business. ;)

Nice find UW thanks ;)

But to take Greenie's words with a grain of salt??? |dizzy| :D

digifan 2005-04-22 07:46 AM

Funny I was thinking off DD's site always as one of the biggest link lists...

Greenguy 2005-04-22 07:51 AM

DDave's site precedes Usenet :D

There were a lot of websites that had a page or pages of links to other websites back then & technically, "Link Lists" & TGP's" are both "Link Sites" in that they basically just "link" to other sites/pages.

All these buzz words & titles for things came about because of message boards :D

PK started in about Feb / Mar 96 (?) linking to "sites" mainly, such as they were.

The Hun was around mid-late 96. I remember him as linking to image directories without an index page mainly before linking to galleries.

The first "TGP" of any size linking solely to galleries was probably Adult Buffet in summer / autumn 97 (ish).

digifan 2005-04-22 08:52 AM

Wow... looks like a promising thread full of good info and memories :)

think was like this, yes - as far as I can remember...

actually theHun linked anything those days that could be found or was submitted to him; it was kind of a picpost, linklist and tgp in one... but all on one index page. it was possible to link to everything that could be found online as there really wasn't a lot those days.

Tommy 2005-04-22 09:17 AM

I remember the Adult Buffet first started calling his site a gallery post

Tommy 2005-04-22 09:19 AM

When you think about it we all use to link directorys

I would hunt around for them

is there any difference between us then and the fuskers of today

Greenguy 2005-04-22 09:30 AM

Tommy - we didn't know any better back then :D

Actually, linking to an unprotected directory is a lot different than hotlinking the images into your pages like fusker does.
(technically, when linking to a directory, you just linking to a page on their server)

I downloaded my first black and white and CGA "color" nekkid pics on a 300 baud modem. BBS's were therefore the first porn link sites, lmao.

stuveltje 2005-04-22 11:23 AM

i am enjoying reading this thread, this (me) fossile like to hear stories and info about the old days, because believe me i didnt know there was porn on the internet before 2001 whn i started my bizz ( i did only do stocks and that kind of shit all day on the net:D)

Garou 2005-04-23 05:37 AM

i wonder how could one think of linking to porn from his page back in 1996.... This one must be either porn addict or a very talented man with business in mind.

Greenguy 2005-04-23 07:31 AM

My 1st site (actually, it was just a page) was online on a free host back in June 96 & I had links to porn with no addictions or business plans - just shits & giggles :)
