My TGP listing experiment
 

1st I’m not sure where this should be listed so if this isn't the right category.. meesa sorry.

I decided since we are now moving into the big $$ months that I’d do a little experimenting with traffic. Before the crash, I outlined in some post my tracking system on a spreadsheet that I upload to Access so I can run detailed reports.

Background:

Over the past 3 months I found that I was listing the same 10-15 tgp sites and getting steady traffic from them. On occasion when I had a very niche site (gothic, boot, smoking etc) I’d vary my pattern to build extra sites and mix up the general tgp with the niched ones. I'm covering my expenses and making a few dollars to put back into the sites, purchase scripts, etc..which is what I really wanted to do for the 1st year.

Experiment:

I decided I wasn't giving enough attention to smaller sites which have a loyal following and could really be a new stream of revenue. so I took the GG&J traffic list.. picked out 2 categories my sites could fall under and submitted a TGP gallery to 20 new places. I also read thru here and looked for the "need gallery" posts. Before submitting (putting their banner on my site) I read all their rules to make sure I was in compliance. some of them wanted only 15-20 pics, I skipped them. Some wanted only 10 pics..I skipped them. I had 12.. a nice average number that gives just a little more to the surfer without giving it away. New clear content as well.

So with my 20 choices at hand and 8 of my partners/good traffic accounts I was off to the submit game. each gallery had 1 or 2 reg and 2 or 3 new depending on my mood, text vs. button etc. 4 receipts per gallery.

I did this on Friday. Now I realize that we are only on Tuesday but here is what I’ve found so far.

on every gallery at least 1 button/link is not valid.

3 of them, once I went thru the entire submission process, said.. we are no longer accepting sites, please apply for partner status. Uh HELLO.. please put that on your RULES page 1st. and trust me, I went back to look to see if I’d missed it. NOPE.

1 of them said, no longer accepting for that category. I went back and tried 3 other catagories..got the same response. since they only listed 10 categories.. 40% of their site was unavailable.

2 of them the submit page went to 404 pages.

2 of them the submit went to an email.. so I simply put my link in and hit send again.. They should at least be able to afford/find a free script that lets the submit go through.

so now I have 7 galleries with 8 bogus link backs. My mistake is that I listed with my partner/regs 1st. not wanting to go back and switch them out.. I just left them up.. grrrrr.

Now of the 12 left of the newbies that I was able to submit to, only 1 in 4 days has confirmed and posted my gallery.

the 8 of my regular/partner submits, have all posted.

now this is indicating to me 2 things.

1..The reason some of the smaller tgp stay small is that they are basically not taking care of their sites.

2..I have no reason to submit to any of them again with the exception of the 1 site that went thru already.

I was pretty bummed out actually since I thought I’d get a few more to add to my submit list...but *sigh*..I guess that's not the case.

I agree, good post.

I hand submit to a shitload of TGPs daily and I have experienced the same results. When I add a few more tgps to my list many do not work or are closed ect. after submitting.

Ahhh yes, the happy life of the gallery poster.

Little TGPs are dying back by the boatloads.

Not all the TGP's were small.. some had PR's of 5 or 6. 1 in particular i was SHOCKED at had the submit that went to email..

none were "monster' sites.. but some were fairly significant and pretty vocal on other boards about submission etc..

the one that floored me the most was a midsized one that who's submit page went to 404.

just to make sure i've tried submitting daily..and still the same..tried off of a diff computer.. the same.. so obviously he isn't checking his 'submits' or it would be fixed.

granted some are small, but i've seen updates.. and my catagory was slightly niched so it's not like it's TEEN or Amateur so it was overused.

Well, there's been a flood of industrial strength cheater posting these past months. About 20-40 cheaters posting hundreds of gallerys a day using scripts to redirect and trap. So lots of places have closed their submits.

Like hardcore junky, submit goes to 404 for about two months now.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "submit that went to email.. ", can you explain?

Combine cheaters with thinner profits and the little guys are suffering. Also, many, many little/middle guys don't review for several weeks, or very often, so you may get listed yet on some of them yet.

I know i should prune my submit list, I'm subbing to places that appear to have stop accepting, I keep waiting to see if they'll revive, but so far they seem to be staying dead.

I'm especially surprised at seemingly successful midsized places like TodaysThumbs that appear to have died completely.

there is a form on the page but when i hit "submit" my outlook email opened and an email address appeared.. but no subject line and none of the stuff that i put in the submit box was still sitting there.. so i just put my link in and hit send.

i did find that part very amusing.

edit: I did get asked on ICQ about how many banners/links i had.

2- 1 odd sized but acceptable banner to a very appropriate sponsor and 1 text link, properly moused so it didn't show my code but only the site.

So very true! My thread here is the proof, and I decided to accept only password submissions. It cut my review time by 70%...

HardcoreJunky is sorely missed - I know I should write Blade an email and ask about a partner submit, but haven't got around to it! My last approval dates back some 4 weeks now (a gallery from late May - so there's hope for a few more approvals...). I'm doing a hardlinked trade with them from my main site...

I'm thinking that all the time BUT then last week I had a listing on TeenPlanet with a gallery from early August, today I received a rejection "too many galleries for today" for a gallery dating back to August, 9, and my counter today shows hits from Free2Peek (their sister site) which I dropped in August... You never know!

I would never ever presume to tell someone how to run their business.. i'm only expressing what i found on this one attempt to expand my database.

My "surprize" was not in the fact that sites have email submits..i have 1 or 2 niches that only take emails and it states it very clearly on their submit page, what is necessary and where to email .. NO problem.. where i was amused at was going thru the entire exercise of my name, my email addy, # of pics, URL, Description, catagory.. all in a nice little form then i hit submit and Wham NONE of the information i loaded populated over, just a blank email with not even a subject.

Why bother to have a form on your page if it doesn't go anywhere and none of the information you "need" will populate?

Big waste of time for both the TGP owner and me.

I find that a lot of the scripts that some of these tgps use are just bad. Sometimes my submissions are rejected by the scripts for reason I know are not accurate.

While I am on this subject can I please rant about the paraphrase requirement on some of these submit pages? What is the purpose? I assume it's to assure that submissions are manual and not autosubmissions?

Well, why do they have to use 15 characters? Why do they have to use characters that no one can distinguish correctly? Why can't they simply use one character? Wouldn't that server the purpose?

ok it's now a week since i've submitted and of the new sites, still only 1 listed me. I got on thehun but not theMicroMinitgp.com

I have my email set for read receipt.. and neither of the 2 that i submitted by email have even been read yet.

and while i understand the need to have those 1000's of submits from the autosubmission places when you are 1st starting up.. after being established for a while, perhaps thougths might be given to either not using them and building up quality hand submits or finding a way to designate who hand submits vs. auto. One i submit to as a niche actually asks for Hand submitters to put HS in front of where their name goes.. so they can read all the Hand submits first.


ardentgent: DangerDave has the Funniest WOTDs. but i know what you mean sometimes the font is funky and it's hard to read their letters. However i'd much rather have a submission that has the WOTD on it.. since that indicates to me i have a better chance of approval than being lost in the minions of the AutoSubmissionZone *sounds like a good name for a BDSM gallery*..

have a new gallery today.. to submit to my "holy 20" and by the time i get up tomorrow i'll either be all accepted or all rejected.

I agree and DangerDave's script is great. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind doing the paraphrase, I just want to be able to read it. Sometimes it's as if they are trying to trick you and don't really want the submission.

UPDATE: I got one more acceptance in the mail when i got home this evening.. and i had totally forgotten about even submitting to this site.

even Richard's Realm and the Hun are faster.. this person is a Board whore over at another webmaster board.. so i guess it's more fun to hang out and pretend to Run a successful TGP than it is to actually shut up do it..

but i suppose as a lowly gallery maker i should be on prostrating myself before him, thanking him for accepting my gallery.

No wonder i stick with my Holy 24.. and be done..

Hey throw some my way. www.eroticimages.com. I am just starting a TGP but have some good traffic to sned through it.

I do find DD's word of the day very hard to read sometimes, especially after a bit of |potleaf|

Docholly this is why I use the RS to do the little TGPs. If I find one that sends decent traffic then I add them to my hand submit list, but life is too short to find them doing hand submits.

AW...next gallery.. i promise...

Cleo: i do agree about the RS, that some of the smaller ones send good concise traffic, but because of the nature of our content, it's not cost effective at this time, to invest as until i totally give up on these girls, i'm still only getting about 5-7 sets a month from them.

My initial thought to doing this was to expand my list by a few more, using the traffic resource here as the starting point. i got a few more from reading posts both here and other boards. I truthfully can handle rejections much better than non-response, re: no listing, no reject, no update etc.

the one thing that i really was the most disgusted about was on several, no where in the rules section does it say.. we are only taking partner submits and it's not until you've added their banner and are actually ready to submit that this becomes evident. Is it really so hard to add that little HTML line to your rules???

Not that anyone should give a damn about a pipsqueak occasional gallery submitter like myself, but those folks go onto *my* blacklist. Life is short, and I'd rather partner with people who are at least as upfront and professional as they expect me to be.

Hey I may have asked for submissions... and I think I have one or two from doc... but They are up... the gaps are basically filled... I added a little more... and will be pushing a bunch 10k a day for a week traffic starting next Tuesday... so hope all who did list make a sale or two from it...

the "newest" wrinkle.. I went through the entire submission process on a very large tgp, and actually i respect this webmaster very much for his fortitude and sense of humor.. and i guess that sense of humor, in a warped way, runs through his submission process as well.

anyway.. i submit and wallah get this glorious page that says..

WHOOOOO.. Yeah!!! i'm happy because my cam girls rarely qualify for this niche but i had a great set submitted to me..and it does.. so i was Happy dancing...

...then i checked my email after submitting all 20 places.. you know to do those who need validation.. and i find a little note from the above mentioned tgp that due to fraud he is no longer accepting submissions.

so the humor comes in as to Will I or Won't i get listed.. guess i need to be a "blonde" to see.

There have been a pile of those lately... guess the TGP business is booming... now all that needs to be done is building the Bookmarks and email addresses to push out more.
