Affiliate Backward Links
Does Googlebot follow cgi code like CCBill codes, to the resolving domain?
If this is true, then are keyword rich text links on affiliate sites bumping up sponsor sites' backward links? |
What you know who said.. on the other board is correct IMO as far as theory goes... :D
but experience tells me that a strong, relevant page can pass PR thru a CCBill link. Will PM you the details in relation to the site in question..:) DD |
Many thanks Dave. :)

I've been led to believe that a link with a ? in it will not be followed by the google bot. IF that's a big IF this is true then my guess is no, but I have never found any more info on this.
I have however tried linking to a site that has a pr of 2 with a PR of 5 and the affiliate site didn't rise at all. so don't know if that helps. regards garv |
Thanks garv :)
Does anyone think mouseovers block Googlebot? |
I have ? pages indexed in google :)
However they're all pr0, and I suspect the ? may be the reason. And urb I don't think mouseovers make any difference at all! Matt |

NO, I do not think that it passes through mouseovers.
I don't really want to go into it, but I did some research and have my own personal data to backup my conclusions that it doesn't pass through mouseovers (or at least the kind that I use) |
Thanks folks. :D
How about one of those cgi-clicks manager progs..... any recommendations? Not the php one on this board.... is there a nice simple perl script for managing banners? |
Matt how long have your pages being up?
It seems to be taking between 6 to 8 weeks for google to give a PR to a new site at the moment. regards garv |
I made a simple program that allowed referes to point to a site link rather than a CCBill link. Even without counting clicks, it makes things neater and makes it much easier for your affiliate to link to you.

I also have other non ? .cgi files that should definately have a pr that show up as 0. This makes me think that the way a dynamic page works dicatates whether it can be assigned a pr or not. Matt |
matt...what I believe DDave was referring to when he said the complexity of the url makes the difference is: if you use more than two variables, or any session dependent ids or anything that looks like them, Google doesnt want to spider them as it could be generated database pages and they would end up botting billions of extra pages - especially if they let on that we could dynamically generate "pages".
As far as the PR passing through, I can think of many affiliate programs that get loads of backlinks from their affiliates to transfer PR and therefore have PRs on some pages up to 6s that I have seen. If you review the Google webmaster pages they describe (although you might have to read a little between the lines) exactly what they will crawl and will not. |
