Stupid Sports Teams

When I lived up in New York I was supporting the losing Buffalo Bills and the stupid, losing, Mets and Yankees...now I am in Philly I find myself a supporter of the equally losing Eagles and Phillies. Who has a winning team I can support? lol

I don't think I would really call the Eagles a losing team :)

"Loosing Yankees"? "Loosing Eagles"? Miama won every regular season game and every playoff in 1972 (I think it was that year). Since then every team looses a few and you have to take the good with the bad.

I've been a Baltimore Oriole fan since the late 60's. There have been some good times and some very lean times, but that's part of being a fan.

I think fans in New York are like that...in Philadelphia though they seem to have a love/hate relationship with their teams. If they don't deliver Philly fans let them know they could have done better and should have done better.... and in a weird way I think the teams appreciate that.

Besides..Eagles played like crap in the Super Bowl with the quarterback running out of steam in the 4th quarter...we want to win that Super Bowl...dammit!!!!!!!!!

IMHO, nothing worse then a fair weather fan.

I went through 13 straight losing years with Purdue Football, and the Pacers never made it out of the first round (if they made the playoffs which wasn’t that often) but I was still rooting for them as much as I do now.

Losing is part of sports, if you can't handle the bad years then you have no reason to be rooting for them in the good years.

The only team I ever "gave up" on was the Colts in the mid 1990’s, and not because they had bad years, (I was use to having bad years) but because they was trying to leave Indy and every time they had a good player they released him or traded him for nothing in return, or hired the worst coach they could find. Now that they are locked into Indy for the next 30 years, and have Dungy and I am proud to say I am once more a Colts fan, win or lose.

As for the Bills being “losers” name one other team in history that has won their conference 4 years in a row. I may make jokes to GG about them, but I think that team was one of the better dynasties in football and not anywhere close to “losers”

As Sir Moby said, only the 1972 Dolphins have never lost a game, so that makes all the other teams in the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB losers when compared to them.

A famous sports writer, whose name I forget at the moment, wrote, "Fans in Philadelphia would boo the kids at an Easter egg hunt that weren't finding any eggs."

Fan is short for fanatic..I find it hard to be a fanatic about a ball being thrown around or hit with a stick or whatever :) I'm more of an interested spectator I would say :)

As for "fair weather "... athletes are paid huge sums of money to perform. Bringing home the bacon for the ' fans" is or should be part of what they are getting paid for. When a team has a great season..or appears to, since maybe the teams they beat might not have been at the top of their form at that time...who knows..., and when the players are telling fans they can bring home the Super Bowl trophy , I think its fair for the fans to have high expectations they will follow through.

Philly fans will tell their teams they suck when they suck. If thats being a fair weather fan so be it LOL.

Elcetra to be a Philly fan you have to be a bit of a masochist at heart LOL

Ramster 2005-05-12 12:39 PM

Your definition of losing is obviously different from mine. Eagles went to the superbowl. Yankees...well nothing to say here, just look at the yearly standings and WorldSeries winners.

Only thing for you to do is get a time machine and move to Boston a few years back.

Oh I know. When I first moved down here I was a bit taken aback how Philly people treated their sports teams, but then it was explained to me that its only because they want them to perform at their best and not slack off..and that the teams know this..it all made sense.

I quite like Boston...who knows maybe move there one of these days. I will probably get there just as their teams are going into a slump. I think I might be a jinx. |cry|

It's sports - no way to predict any of it. (except wwf)
Instead of finding a team, I'd suggest you find some fun ways to play the games.
ie... touch or flag football leagues, softball in the summer etc.
After you lose a couple hundred games over a few seasons, you'll see the swings.

Our Twins have a couple World Series wins, but that's it.. we still have Vikes, Wild (yeah right), T-Wolves.. etc.
Hey, they're from here, so they are My teams.

I'm am not a fair weather fan, but I do have great respect for players that simply deserve it... ie.. Brett Favre, Reggie Miller, Roger Clemons, etc...

Well I've been a true fan of the Tampa Bay Bucs since they started in 1976! It's been a very long road for us, look at how long it took us to get to the Super Bowl. I get so mad at people that do nothing but put them down. Then we go to the super bowl and they all of a sudden love them! I've been a season ticket holder since the beginning and always will be, they are my team good or bad. I can't wait for football to start again, it's the only sport I enjoy watching.

This was always my thinking with sports teams..if the home team doesn't make it into the final root for whatever team is the closest to where you are :)

I used to be a big collector of sports cards and memorabelia..have boxes of stuff in the basement....why did I do that? :(

I've been a Pittsburgh Steelers fan since before I turned 10. :) They've won a few Super Bowls, they've also had some shitty years as well and are finally starting to show some life again. We'll have to see what happens for this upcoming season though.

I've also been a nut for MLB for quite sometime now and since the fam moved up to Toronto back in the 70's it was hard early on to be a Jays fan until they won it a few times in the 90's. Glad to see that Selig has decided to clean up the game - finally! |thumb

I've been an NBA fan off and on for quite sometime now. And I'm SO glad the Lakers have fallen onto hard times. |bananna| It's really nice to see them eat some humble pie. :D |pink

I used to love the NHL but greed's killed that sport and greed's killed my desire for it as well. So fuck 'em.

Well, there you have it from me.

Now, if I can just figure out handicapping and how to beat spreads, sports will be much better than just cheering for your favorite team.

Let's see, I'm a Jets fan and a Knicks fan. Knicks haven't won since the year I was born, I'm positive I'm a jinx to them. Still, I'm a fan. I think it kinda sucks when a team gets good and suddenly they have all these "Fans." No, no, you're not a fan if you're supporting a team because they're winning, what you are is a frontrunner with no loyalty.

I have to give credit to Boston fans. They have blind support for their teams even if they're sucking it up.

I root for the Buffalo teams all the time, unless I'm at an away game & fearing for the life of my Buffalo hat in a mens room full of drunken fans :D

If Buffalo's not playing, I root for the team I have money on :)

I don't know where that could have been
