I'm getting out for a while... but I dont want to be blacklisted
hey everyone-
I am a part time webmaster and I dont want to publish my address as it may have implications on my university studies and career outside of the adult industry (not to mention the possibility of having a record and/or being put in jail). I am planning on getting out for at least the summer, if not longer, to wait to see how things turn out in order to limit my liability. Therefore I will be removing all pictures, videos and banners from my sites. I am happy to email sites that I've submitted to to let them remove links to my sites. However, I'm worried about being blacklisted especially if I return or only function in online adult without any graphical depiction (i.e. using text only) does anyone have any suggestions? I dont want to screw people over and have my links come up with all broken images! |

There's this stigma in the non-webmaster/non porn-consumer world that porn is illegal. Christ, my own mother used to say 'You'll go to jail!'. I'd have to tell her what we do is as illegal as selling a Hustler magazine on a newsstand. Last I checked it's very legal. |
Why not simply post here what urls you are doing this with and we can all remove your links? If someone does ban you you could refer to this thread to say you were being honest and not trying to screw anyone.

no - I am a webmaster in the U.S. I just don't want to publish my physical address on the internet because I am a university student and don't plan on working in adult after university.
I do not publish anything illegal or even extreme. I believe in sexual freedom for adults and don't believe in violating any laws. however, while the possibility of me getting in trouble is very small if I dont publish my address I still have to prepare for the worst. While I like what I do and am aware that my current dealings in adult may have effects on my life in the future, I feel as though the new 2257 record keeping regulations and the public disclosure that is required increases the possibility for negative consequences further down the road. I don't mean to be a pussy - but as I'm very part time and only make like $400-600 a month its not worth it to me. |
Post your URLs and address that you used and I'll pull your stuff without any banning or anything bad. :)

You're not being a pussy. I understand what you're saying now. If you bow out while keeping your resources online there is a slight chance you could miss some 2257 changes, be out of step, and put yourself in the red zone without being aware of it.

I'm pulling all images, videos and banners - so just leaving the html files that will display broken images and links. while not 100% perfect I think it greatly improves my protection.

Haven't you ever wondered why paysites have lots of fine print about how they won't provide access to certain jurisdictions in the USA? http://www.adultweblaw.com/laws/obscene.htm |
Honestly?
I dont blame anyone for getting out. But getting out now isnt making a lot of sense. Its always been damned risky. Its not like tomorrow they're going to form giant tasks forces that rape and pillage businesess based on 2257. You were ALWAYS at risk. your address was ALWAYS published via whois. (at least your p.o. box I see) and you've always been a possible target. Why you'd give up the income now I dont get it. But seeya and door hit you and etc. :) P.s. 404 your traffic to me ;) |
One thing you might want to think about doing if you want to keep a small amount of income is set the domains up (the ones you posted there) to simply redirect to a sponsor tour, with your webmaster referral code and everything....if that's possible.. If you don't want them to redirect automatically, just set up a few text links. You should be able to avoid having to post any 2257 info on the domains then, and could still potentially earn some income.

its been interesting hearing everyones point of views
anyway, its easy for me to get out. While I took things seriously and tried to always act professionally, I wasnt making a lot of money and spent time just learning. I also have some non adult projects in the works and I can also do more web design for AEN's like Adult Video Planet (btw I did Do I Look Like a Slut? at http://slut.adultvideoplanet.com/ ). btw... I just made lukeisback.com by giving my somewhat paranoid opinions on how 2257 could cause problems for people ;) yay! |
Two points on pulling content.
Sec 75.4 says that you need to keep the records for 5 years, so even if you pull the stuff, I think you still have to have the records. And notice they say "producer", without the "primary" or "secondary" adjectives. Sec. 75.3 has a little section saying "(including but not limited to Internet computer site or services)" that has me thinking that you may have to document the stuff even if you haven't used it on the net. What happens if you just blew out 100+ gallery pages with a submit tool, but, haven't made the 2000+ entries in the DB yet when they knock on the door? |
