I do when I see them, but I haven't been poking around much over at Google lately - just not enough time in the day :)

For those that don't know that you can report spam to Google - http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html

urb 2003-11-01 01:43 PM

I report nothing.

A waste of time IMO. I don't imagine Google has the capacity of staff to deal with it anyway.

Hmmm, not sure about that, Ive reported spammers that have taken away some #1 spots from me and saw them compleatly gone within a couple days. Dont know if it was me that caused that, but.....

DangerDave 2003-11-01 04:15 PM

Every single day..

Reported over 600,000 pages on Friday alone...

It is worth it... They do get removed and your listings will improve...

"All that is required for EVIL to triumph, is for GOOD men to do nothing!"

Report em!
Help Google fight the spammers
Give Goog as much info as possible
CHARGE!

SAPM Rappinghood

SPAM in papers, SPAM in books
SPAM on TV, SPAM for crooks
SPAM of comfort, SPAM of peace
SPAM to make the fighting cease
SPAM to tell you what to do
SPAM are working hard for you
Eat your SPAM but don't go hungry
SPAM have always nearly hung me
SPAM of nuance, SPAM of skill
And SPAM of romance are a thrill
SPAM are stupid, SPAM are fun
SPAM can put you on the run
Its a rap race, with a fast pace
Concrete SPAM, abstract SPAM
Crazy SPAM and lying SPAM
Hazy SPAM and dying SPAM
SPAM of faith and tell me straight
Rare SPAM and swear SPAM
Good SPAM and bad SPAM
SPAM can make you pay and pay
Four-letter SPAM I cannot say
Panty, toilet, dirty devil
SPAM are trouble, SPAM are subtle
SPAM of anger, SPAM of hate
SPAM over here, SPAM out there
In the air and everywhere
SPAM of wisdom, SPAM of strife
SPAM that write the book I like
SPAM won't find no right solution
To the planet earth's pollution
Say the right word, make a million

When I see obvious spam, and a bunch of it from the same people, I report it. There is a dumbass right now out there redirecting all sorts of stuff to an animal fucking site that pops about 20 consoles on the way... fucker is redirecting all sorts of softcore, celeb, and many nonadult terms to that stuff.

Google will act on it, I am sure.

Google spam is a full time job for some people!

Alex

Linkster 2003-11-02 07:15 AM

I have in the past - mostly I figure that the small time spammers are easy to get around - the big ones that do redirects and nasty shit get reported - one word of caution though - best to be extremely clean yourself if you do it - it's not too hard for Google to figure out who you are and what sites are yours when you report, as they tend to assume that you are reporting someone above you

A secondary concern that I have personally is that there are some techniques that will put me where I want to be in the SERPs that might be considered spam by someone that doesn't understand the techniques - I'd hate to get reported just because someone "thinks" they should be above me in the rankings - a hand review of a site by Google might cause someone who is deserving of their ranking to be taken down as I think someone on this board had happen to them in the past

that said, there are some techniques for ranking high that some would consider spam, but are just methods that work well with Googles algo right now and I don't think I would report those as spam as I might try them as well
Comes down to a personal decision of what is spam? Unfortunately some people have a very strict definition of it and some are looser so it's open for interpretation in most cases

Google defines what is acceptable and not on their WM pages, but that is what they want in an idealistic situation - should we give up profit to help Google? Im not sure :)

urb 2003-11-02 07:26 AM

OK this is how I see the situation.

Here's me --> |angry| |spam|

Here's Google's spam dept. --> |snail

I see the same spammers in the serps today as was 4 months ago. |sad|

Maybe Google will act on extreme cases, but for a medium collection of drops or redirections they are not (IMO) doing anything about it.

I know, I know, that they claim their algo will eventually weed out stuff. But I honestly see the same spammers using the same tricks over and over again.

Link lists use blacklists... and I think that Google should consider using their's a little more than they do.

Without a deterrent there is no cure.

Thats pretty much what Im talking about when I say spam ( that animal dude drives me nuts ). But if someone is on the ball and jumps ahead then fuck it he deserves to be there, even if the site is shit. There are some check boxes on the spam page, if more than 2 or 3 need to be checked its usually pretty bad. Im sure you your techniques dont fall into that linkster. Damm DD how do you find so many in a day?

DangerDave 2003-11-02 03:19 PM

I dont waste time chasing down every little spammer.. but the big ones and the redirectors, I will do em every time...

Alex, that beas7iality dickwad is ahead of me on a couple of stray terms too... They better remove him! |angry|

Freeway, these guys that do thousands of spam pages are particularly stupid |violin| and they are easy to track when you know how.... )

This whole thing is subjective.

Someone Placed Above Me.

I repeat...someone please...anyone

DangerDave 2003-11-03 02:46 PM

WicKed,

Google spam is pages that are duplicated and or innapropriate and or redirected that can be found in google. These pages are created by SE spammers to get lots of listings and traffic.

They are usually not legitimate sites but just redirections to sponsors.
