Site/Gallery Submission
 

Hey all,

I run a LL, but I also have started to build my own mini sites & galleries and submit now and then to other LLs.

Recently on when submitting to a fairly popular LL, I received a message of:

"Sorry, you registered your name through Domains by Proxy, Whois Protection Service or something similar (like a bulk register program), many cheaters use this so we can't trace who they are. Unfortunately that means this service can not be used on submissions to XXXXXXXXX."

My domain is "private", is this why? Any ideas on how to work around it?

As a side note, here's the site I was submitting, anything on it other LL managers would normally like changed or would they list it as is?

Easy enough, unsubscribe your domain from this service. ;)

Regarding your freesite: Some reviewers might have a problem with linking the entire header in your galleries. Also your 2257 link 404s.

You would probably make more sales if you put up some advertising on your index page. :D

Jerkit you got too much outgoing links in your gallery pages, most LL reviewers won't list it. Three outgoing links per page is commonly accepted maximum.

I do not know what LL do you have that message from, but I personally do not agree with this. If the free site is nice I do not need to know domain's owner address. If it would be cheater, he can register it using fake address anyway, so looking to the whois info is useless. But every LL has its own rules and you either make free sites according to them or they won't list you. My advice is you to contact them and ask for an exception.

Jerkit, did the LL make this clear in their rules? If not, I'd be interested to know which one it is - I always use Domains By Proxy, and I'd rather not waste time submitting to sites that won't accept because of that fact alone.

As for advertising on the index page, I thought some LLs frowned on that, no?

Some LLs don't allow hardcore on warning page, but you can advertise with text/softcore.

I wasn't the link list in question, but I pull a whois on every domain submitted to my list and TGP. I will not accept sites or galleries from a whois protected domain. A great many large reputable list owners are in agreement with this. Boo hoo to anyone who feels that their privacy is more important than mine.

Don't get reviewers a reason to decline your gallery or site. Privacy on domains is just another way that you make it harder for them to accept your sites.

If you are not comfortable admitting who you are, not comfortable that someone might find out that you are a flithy porn slinger, then maybe this isn't the business for you.

Thanks for the heads up.. I just thought it would be ok to make it private when I first signed up, never thought it'd be an issue to be honest. Will un-privatize it shortly.

I take your point, Alex. But, on the other hand, it's not all that different from webmasters not wanting to publish their home address (if they work from home!) as part of their 2257 docs. I'm quite comfortable with what I do, and if people ask I will tell them. But I don't see any reason to attract extra hassle, either.

That said, I respect a LL's right to decline on that basis, although up until now I didn't even realise it was an issue! If they make it clear in their rules then I won't waste their time by submitting a DBP site to them.

Rob, there is no way to seperate you from the scammers, multi submitters, and general scumbags that are out there. Many of them hide behind the same system.

It's hard to tell, and honestly, we would rather piss off a few honest people then get screwed over by these people.

That sounds perfectly reasonable to me - I'd object to being scammed too :D

Even so, I'm not too clear on how whois info can help too much on that score. As Fido pointed out, it's easy enough to fake the ownership info on a domain, and I don't suppose dishonest folks would worry too much about doing exactly that |cry| Pesonally, I prefer above board obscurity to dishonest openness, but that's just me.

Incidentally, please don't think I'm being argumentative over this point - I'm genuinely interested in the processes and pitfalls of running a link list. I've been toying with the idea of starting a link list at some point in the future as a possible means of mitigating the hassles of 2257, and it strikes me that it would be good to know about the potential problems well in advance.

Which leads me to another question I've been meaning to ask for a day or two; I gather from reading here and from the rules of various lists, that autosubmitters are |bigfuckin My question is - why? I suppose they deluge the LL owners with submissions to the extent that they may push out other folks doing things by hand. Is that right, or is there another reason that I haven't figured out yet? Again, just curious.
