2257 Spit Take - The Christian view
I am going to post the whole thing here so you don't have to visit the site: http://www.christianpost.com/article...porn.law/1.htm
Quote:
"illegal pornography, which makes up a majority of the $57 billion dollar industry" Didn't realize there was that much illegal porn. "Much of pornography or hardcore material that is shown is considered obscene material by law" What law? "About 47 percent of Christians say pornography is a major problem in the home" Stop looking at porn then. |
How about
"Weiss said, "One person sneaking a peak late at night is not a solitary thing, but it affects whole communities." " Hell, when I rub one out I don't feel the need to involve the neighbours, that's just being greedy. And like you, and I suspect everyone who reads this, 'makes up a majority' is plain BS :( |

Not in Christian circles it seems. I think they need a new law.

These self-appointed saviours of humanity...I mean, of, America - okay, of white, middle-class America - make me want to...I dunno, exactly, but I'm pretty sure they'd be opposed to it. |yawn

From Wikepedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obscene..._obscenity_law "In Miller v. California, the Supreme Court ruled that materials were obscene if they appealed, “to a prurient interest in sex,” showed “patently offensive sexual conduct” that was specifically defined by an obscenity law, and “lacked serious artistic, literary, political, or scientific value.” Decisions regarding whether material was obscene should be based on local, not national, standards." Title 18, Chapter 71 Obscenity: http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/h...0_I_20_71.html |

More children are sexually abused by the individuals in the religious community than by individuals in the adult industry.
If I remember correctly - In Australia we have had over 4,000 complaints filed with the police for child sex abuse by the church and not one child sex abuse case has ever been filed against any worker in the sex industry here. I'm a member of EROS who represents the sex industry in Australia and every time the churches open their mouths they get hit straight back with these embarrassing facts. |
This article is filled with such outright lies and nonsense.
I't always makes me disappointed and sad that a religion based on a book that says 'know the truth and the truth will set you free' spends so much of their time spinning half truths and spouting bald face lies. Of course, I guess I forget that it is for my own good that they bullshit me. It is no wonder that they are largely supportive of an administration that lectures the world on how to be democratic, then fights a war on its own people to restrict their rights. Lying, I guess, when it serves a 'higher' purpose like manipulating others to live their lives as one sees fit, or to send them to their deaths over imaginary weapons is OK. |
"Much of pornography or hardcore material that is shown is considered obscene material by law and that's illegal," he said. "If we simply enforce the law, it would have a significant effect."
I don't know how this could be since obscenity is defined locally and really what is obscene cannot be known until after a court case. Of course this is one problem with obscenity laws in the first place, that one cannot know before hand whether one is violating them or not. Secondly, obscenity laws, as they relate to private enjoyment at home, transfer through the mail, and transfer over the internet have been found to be unconstitutional by a federal judge in a recent court case - extreme associates v reno. I believe that the DOJ is going to appeal that decision. More info on that case here: http://www.peak.org/mailing-list/arc.../msg05988.html |peace

I would like an explination of this statement.
"One person sneaking a peak late at night is not a solitary thing, but it affects whole communities." I would really love to hear the thought process that leads to this way of thinking. I believe this thoguht process is very dangerous. My understanding of this thought process is that leads to cruelty that only humans can justify. Since few people that actually have this mind set are willing to rationally explain it then I guess I will have to continue on with my own thoughts. |

I remember reading an article in a college paper written by a college girl. She said that her boyfriend's enjoyment of online porn ruined their relationship. She then went on to attack women who do porn, stating that it was terrible because the only people who viewed such filth were dirty old men who never bathed. |pokefun| Was that what her boyfriend was, a dirty old man who never bathed? If this is what passes for debate or presentation of ideas and arguements in college these days we are all in trouble. |
Bob: Mary caught Jack mastrubating to porn the other night in his work den.
Bob's Wife: Oh my dear. Gosh. Bob: Keep the kids away from their house for a while. Bob's Wife: Only Jesus can save his soul now. ...That's the only "community affecting" scenario I can dream up. Unless they rally together to help Jack. But Jack can easily redeem himself by repenting to Jesus. Then, it's all good! But don't expect these writers to back up anything they say. If they wanted solid facts to regurgitate they wouldn't be culling from a reprint of a few thousand year old book of stories. They have nothing to back them up. If you see them adopting a scientific fact then it's because it reinforces their agenda. They will agree with science as long as it fits their ideology. |
Here is that college article I mentioned. It is worth a few laughs :D
http://www.kykernel.com/media/paper3...l-892094.shtml Short excerpts: "When I was 16, my boyfriend became addicted to porn. The problem affects every aspect of our relationship to this day. I'm overly self-conscious because I know that often when he looks at me, he sees me as an object of his desires rather than the person I truly am. It tears me up inside that his love for me wasn't enough to conquer his desire for sexual relationships with other women." then this curious statement: "If porn has such a dramatic effect on me and other third-party victims, much as second-hand smoke does, what does it do to women in the business? What would drive a woman to make that career choice? What feeling do you get when your only contributions to the world are sold in the back of a dark warehouse to middle-aged men in need of a bath?" And how about this gem: "As the amount of pornographic content in today's magazines and television ads rises, so do eating disorders on college campuses. Men see gorgeous women on the cover of Vogue, and suddenly women feel they must either copy that look or be undesirable." |pokefun| Vogue is now pornography? And this certainly warrants attention: "Women in porn are making themselves available, over and over again, with the hope that someday someone will fill the hole within their hearts. " Hole within their hearts? This must be a new genre of porn. |cool

She said I was a shame to all womenkind and that I must be a sad, pathetic woman with low self esteem to do what I do. And, what kind of Christian was I to try and take her man. Take her man, ain't that a hoot. Never mind that it was her Christian man who paid $29.95 to see my nekkid boobs. |boobies| I guess all us man stealin', sad, pathetic women, with low self esteem, who are in the porn industry must be baaaad Christians. A couple of weeks ago a US talk show mentioned that women were demonstrating outside the station for the right to breast feed in public. In Canada a few years ago some women brought an equal rights complaint about being banned from going topless while men were allowed. They won. Maybe boobies will make it out of the corset someday in the US. |
