LL Owners: Sponsors, HFS, and Etiquette Q

So in my effort to create the world's one millionth link list :) I've signed up with a ton of sponsors with HFS. Some of them are great, but some of them are just all over the place with linked titles, FHGs as gallery pages, etc. (I'm sure you know what I mean, lol) Should I contact the sponsors, let them know and/or ask them to fix it? Or just forget about it?

I just feel really presumptuous about asking...I've never sent them sales, and I won't even be sending traffic for awhile. But as it stands now, I can't use their stuff at all.....If you were the noob, what would you do?

Thank you! |bow|

My buddy Chop has already compiled an excellent site with all the GOOD sponsor hosted free sites. http://www.hfslinks.com/ Enjoy.

Thanks UW! I've been using Chop's site too (and it is awesome, thank you Chop!!)....Just a shame that the rest of these sponsors can't figure out how to make a freesite. Point taken, though, and thank you again! :)

I used to list the crappy looking HFS's that sponsors put out, but I got sick of looking at them and assuming that my surfers would be sick after looking at them too, I deleted them.

Just use the ones that you think are decent & let the others rot on the vine :)

Ditto. It's hard to resist temptation when you're starting your first LL, but my advice is to resist...never list anything you wouldn't want to look at as a surfer :)

Including those listed on HFSLinks.com, you have to treat HFS' as if the sponsor submitted them to your link list. If they do meet your rules and guidelines, reject the use of them.

Unfortunately, many sponsors building HFS and Free-hosted galleries feel since they are sharing revenue with the LL's and TGP's that they can get by with crappy promos.

Thanks,UW

Thank you, all of you! |rock| And it is tempting to list them anyway - but a lot are just way too out there. Wish they would take an extra 5 minutes and actually read some link list rules....Hmmm, I guess I should get used to feeling like that!

Chop, HFSlinks is truly a wonderful resource. Thanks for putting the time into it and letting me leech off it. Oh, and MadMax, I'm going to pillage your list of clean free sites too, so TIA! Seriously, you guys are great. |blowkiss|

Also might want to check that the aff codes follow through to the inside of the HFS's - we've found some sponsors that don't check the sites after they have them built by an outsourcer - and the sites arent coded properly :(

Good point Linkster - I make it a point to at least surf all the HFS's that I list & make sure they have the correct codes & whatnot as well.

Plus, most of the descriptions that sponsors list for their HFS's kinda suck, so write up your own description after you patrol the site :D

Suck? Nahhh - they dont even match the content in 80% of the cases - I just put in rotating descriptions and hope for the best :)

Thanks for the tips! So far the links have been okay throughout the sites, but I'm on the lookout! Descriptions....well.....depends on just how bad they are, lol. Funny, I used to worry that my descriptions weren't good enough. :D Thanks again!!
