Fucking Starbucks

I don't drink Starbucks and I never will. I prefer supporting a smaller coffee chain here called Torrefazione Italia. In fact I eat breakfast there daily. Well, I just found out fucking Starbucks bought all their Chicago locations and is closing them all down this month.

Fuck Starbucks and their greasy corporate takovers, their fat yuppy atmosphere and their overpriced diarrhea coffee. There is already one on every goddamned block in this city, and they've basically driven everyone else out of business. Fucking cocksuckers.

It's a shame Torrefazione Italia doesn't feel the same way you do. I'm in a shit community and we now have two Starbucks. One of them is in a Target. (I love Target, btw.)

What I don't like about Starbucks is that they never have things like scones or decent sandwiches, just really sweet sticky things.

I do coffee and a scone or a sandwich at Borders Books a lot. As an added bonus I can sit there a look through their books and magazines too.

We also have these where I live I like them very much too.

Just another predator corporation doing it's part to stomp out the little guy on it's way to ultimate glory. But hey! It will be SO much easier when you don't actually have to "think" or "choose" where to get your morning coffee. Boy that will save a lot of time and effort for everyone! Wahoo!!!

Sorry, touched a nerve...

SF

The fact that any of these places even exists baffles me - why in the fuck would anyone want to ruin a good cup of coffee and then pay through the nose for something worth a nickle? I could see maybe a quarter for some coffee at something like Dunkins - but even that is a rip.

SirMoby 2005-07-11 04:16 PM

Starbucks is taking over the world. Way back when I was in Singapore and they got thier first Starbucks. It was small compared to most I've seen. It must have been a hot because when I went back 5 monhts later (Yes, 5 MONTHS LATER) there was on on every block that I walked on Orchid Street.

This is the main high prive shopping district and other stores had to be bought and moved out before these could be there. These were fucking huge. Each one could seat maybe 100 people inside and 200 or more outside.

This was on every block for at least 4 blocks and they had seating for maybe 1,000 + people. All that and I still had to wait in line for 15 minutes to get my damn coffee.

Insane it is

I drink Starbucks all the time...it makes me feel cool |thumb

What's Your Starbucks Density?

I've got 86 Starbucks within a 5 mile radius of my work. Can anyone beat that?

http://www.starbucks.com/retail/locator/default.aspx

(The world record so far is 170 in Manhattan.)

Here's a nice blog w/ more commentary & trackbacks: http://www.kottke.org/05/01/maximum-starbucks-density

Linkster 2005-07-11 05:10 PM

Yeah - I can beat it - Ive got "no stores found" within 20 miles of my city - there is one 50 miles away - guess we're just gonna have to vote that damn commisioner out of his seat

Greenguy 2005-07-11 05:36 PM

I've got none within 5 miles - lol

Lemmy 2005-07-11 06:40 PM

1 within 5 miles. Don't much care for their coffe.

Starbucks is just following the trend in America today. Walmart puts entire towns out of business and then rehires the people to work in their own stores @ $5/hr.

binxgook 2005-07-12 12:34 AM

I got none within 50 miles. I dont think I have ever set foot in a starbucks, Dont think I have ever had anything from a starbucks,Dont think I really want anything from a starbucks either.

Starbucks coffee is excellent. Don't have any problems at all with them. In fact there's a local chain of coffee shops called Dunkin' Donuts I wish they would buy so I might be able to get a decent cup of coffee. Starbucks isn't like Walmart. They don't come in and offer cheap prices for shit product. They offer a good product.
Sorry to hear about your favorite coffee place though Verbal

You know whats fucked up about all coffee places? You never are 100% sure they will make a good cup, and if they do it may not be good the next time. My coffee in my house is the best for me. I don't mind WaWa's dark but anything else gets thrown out after a few sips. Star Bucks is the worste. But I was told by one of their employee's and another person that if you want a partime job that has benefits thats the place to work. And their great for riding off their network when your on the road with your laptop.

Chop Smith 2005-07-12 03:20 AM

I don't even have a hard surface road within 5 miles.

*swagging wide hips* we might have to fight.. i'd prefer that Dunkin' bought out Starfucks so the world could taste a decent cup of coffee.

GunnCat 2005-07-12 06:53 AM

DD is swill. You know that barfup you get sometimes after a big meal? I would rather taste that than subject my tastebuds to a cup of their coffee.

I understand that some people don't like the taste of a Seattle style coffee (or French or Italian Roasts) but I really enjoy a full bodied coffee!

ecchi 2005-07-16 07:47 AM

I am lucky, there is an Italian deli near to where I live that has a coffee counter. They sell mostly to ex-pat Italians, so their coffee is good, much better than the sludge most chain store coffee shops sell nowadays.

Head Boy 2005-07-16 11:24 AM

I noticed that starbucks had made it to Walton-on-Thames (my old stomping ground in England) I'm not sure I can be bothered to hunt for parking to try it though. :)

ecchi 2005-07-16 11:59 AM

I have no doubt that Walton-on-Thames has a proper coffee shop as well as a Starbucks !
