Small PHP/MySQL project - modify my custom board!

I used to have the most wonderful PHP guy, who suddenly dropped off the face of the planet. One of the things he did for me was make a message board, and there are some parameters I'd like to change.

The board is set up to automatically remove "old" threads, which "disappear" between a week and a month after being posted. It requires a subject for a replying message to post, and I'd like to switch that to default it to "Re:". Also, there's some post length cut-off, and I want to switch it to unlimited. My host and I have looked around a bit, and we can't figure out where any of these things have been pre-set or how to alter them.

I don't imagine it's a huge project, since it's a very simple threaded board. The same script is being run on two sites from different tables in my database, and I'd like the changes to apply to both boards.
