About to Launch First Link List ( Advices would be MUCH appreciated!)

Hello all,

I am not a regular poster here, more of a lurker and one of those guys that stays behind the scene and read up as much as he can. However, i decided to launch a link list and try my hand at this field of the industry because it seems like one of the best in the biz. The traffic quality makes a lot more sense than the tgp/mgp world. I got the design on the road, and finished it. I had Links 2 installed as my primary script, adding links into it is a killer though because there is no import feature.

Ok, i want my link list to have a majority of SE traffic, and bookmarkers, the same method many successful ones out there followed. However, i know it is going to take sometime to make the majority of my link list or any link list SE traffic and bookmarkers. I do want trades, and i am also looking for anyone that is willing to give me a trade, or give me a chance to get up. It is obvious i don't have a lot of traffic now that i am launching, but if some people are willing to put my link up and i do the same for them, it would give me a very big chance to get on my feet. I am going to buy some freesite traffic from Choker, and any other recommended places to get the site going, and also bring in some bookmarkers, also to help my trades. Anyone that is willing to swap links with me, it will be a hardlink on my side, because i do not have the feature to manahe trades yet or a script to do that for me. I wrote all of this without placing the url of the site.. So here it is..

http://www.freesitearchive.com/

My design looks very amateurish, which i kind of like and think the surfers like better. However, feel free to make any comments on the design, add your 2cents, i will appreciate it.

Finally, i would EXTREMELY appreciate any feedback from you old timers or people that already run successful link list(s) on how to get started and the best way to go at it. I know what worked for one may not work for the other, but any kind of idea is very big to me, because i can build from one idea, which will lead to many other new ideas that will work. Acquiring traffic is one of the hardest things in building any kind of site. I do not want to have to keep buying traffic, so i would also appreciate any feedbacks on the best ways to approach the traffic portion and mainting it. Thank you all very much for your much valuable time, and i hope i can learn a great bunch from some of you that have done and went through this before. This board has never failed to impressive me when it comes to constructive criticism and assistance to those that seek help or an advice.

Well I would say the number one thing you have to worry about as you start out is getting submitters - I'm still struggling hard to get those because people a'int got much of an incentive to submit to your new link list - but if you buy traffic then I guess more people will come so that's great!

Take a look at MadMax's guide to getting submissions - some pretty good tips in there: http://www.fetishphiles.net/tutorial...bmissions.html

I will add you to my submission list - imo we small guys have got to stand together and support each other to ever get off the ground in a buisness where a new link list is opened every day!

edit: Oh yeah I don't see any submit rules or recips yet - you should get those up asap so that people can submit to you :)

JoeBlack 2005-07-22 01:42 AM

Also it would be good to at least have your basic SEO done on your site before you open it along with your recips.

Basic SEO : Title, Keywords, and Description

Good luck with ur new Link List.

Borrow real free sites with recips off of other LL and other LL will want to trade a little more - show them you have a real LL not just a hub with all pay and hosted links and when those free site builders see a few hits from a LL they never subbed to they will come and submitt and when you have a real LL that has real free sites THEN other LL will list your LL in there LL category - they say it takes 2 years min. for a LL to start to mature and thats about right IMO..

keep your paying bookmarkers happy...and coming back and I tell you its a good feeling when they do come back, useally a few days after the first of the month and a little in the middle but then again they could buy anytime I've seen.. but a LL is a shit load of work and has to do good in the serps to make money...

gqgreg are you one of the brothers that started that TGP?

Linkster 2005-07-22 07:05 AM

Two starter pointers:
First - make a category for "other link lists" - this will help you when it comes time for submitting your LL to other LLs for starting smaller linkbacks and trades.
Second - as mentioned before - copy some links (make your own descriptions of course) from the bigger LLs to get to the point where you have about 30 free sites (not your own stuff) in each category. Then start submitting to the other linklists LL category.

Thanks to everyone so much, i am taking all of this in and will start to make revisions asap. Keep em coming, i am really appreciating the advice being offered here.

Also, when it comes to borrowing the "real freesites" from other established link lists, would that bring any form of persecution on my side? I do not want to go in the shit list of the people that i hope will be willing to trade with me and help me get going.

ynuahayt, I will also add the link in your sig into my newly created "LinkLists" category. Hopefully you also add me to that category. Anyone else that would like for me to add them and they add me manually, please let me know through here. Thanks.

JoeBlack, i did the basic SEO before i put it up, unless you think it can use some improvement, then i am willing to adhere to what ever suggestion you make.

Surfn, what TGP? hehe

Linkster, thanks for bringing that up, i have already made that change. Every post in here count, and helped out, please keep them coming, even Surfn's tgp post counts ;). Thank you all that have replied so far, i hope more people drop in to share some more tips with me.

I am not asking anyone to spoon feed me, but advice would be great, just wanted to get that out the way, i am more than willing to work hard for the success of this link list, and i don't plan on being one of those that start and a month later drop off the face of the Earth or go on auto pilot. Thanks all. :)

EDIT: I am adding everyone that posted in this thread link list to my "LinkList" category, i know it is not much to offer, but as time goes and i buy/ acquire traffic for it, i am sure it will pay off. If you all would like to add me back, that is a bonus, and much appreciated but you do NOT have to return the favor, i am actually the one returning the favor. Hope that made some sense.

For anyone that does decide to link to my site, please use this url http://www.freesitearchive.com/pages
Thank you all very much.

Greg, I'd be happy to regular hardlink trades with you, index/category/submit. Info in my sig. Let me know what you think. ;)

Lemmy 2005-07-22 10:52 AM

Oh yeah, I don't think anyone will mind if you borrow their freesites, as long as you don't copy a LLs own descriptions. God knows I get a lot of submits with "some rather swell pics of this hot chick over here". :D Feel free to help yourself from the list of clean freesites in my sig.

ynuahayt 2005-07-22 01:21 PM

Hey I checked your link list again and I just discovered that your links out are like this:

http://www.freesitearchive.com/jump.cgi?ID=274

That means that they are not real hardlinks and thus they will not help trade link popularity for the SE's (correct me if I'm wrong here!) - I hope you can fix that in some way :)

gqgreg 2005-07-24 01:11 AM

added Lemmy.

Lemmy 2005-07-24 12:49 PM

Your link is up on index. Did you want category trades as well?

morruga 2005-07-24 01:48 PM

Lemmy, you've got mail! :D

Danny 2005-07-24 05:26 PM

You might wanna try a link dump strategy as well, letting people submit recip free sites, to fill up your categories.
Will save you lots of time instead of doing all link harvesting and descriptions yourself. :)

you can get rid of that jump cgi business by just using <%URL%> in between the href=" " part of the link template instead of whats there now
