A little trivia

How many years has the metric system been the official standard of measurement of the US? And yes...it is the official standard of measurement.

I remember when I was in school and they basically told us to forget all that we had learned since we were now going to learn the metric system. I was happy as a pig in shit because the metric system actually made sense. Even Coke came out with a one and two liter bottles.

Then I graduated and went to work in the real world which meant my parents contracting business which was not using the metric system. So I had to teach myself fractions, feet, and all the other fun things that goes with the American system.

I can do both, guess I'm bi-measurement. :D

In answer to your question I'm not sure of the exact date, but I seem to remember it was sometime around 1970.

Nope...and this is going to kill you...
It was the mid 30s when the US made the metric system the official standard of measurement. It's just...none of us will change :)

From THIS page:

"In 1959, the US set its own standards based on the metric system. A yard is officially 0.9144 meters exactly, and an inch is 2.54 centimeters exactly. Congress also passed a law in 1975 to work toward making the metric system the standard system in America. This was amended in 1988 when it was decided that the Government itself must be metric before it can start asking the private sector to follow suit. Since 1991, all government agencies must file an annual report on their efforts to go metric (sounds like more bureaucratic paperwork to me)."

Well damn, why then do we still use this fucked up system?

I just love the fact that when I go to fix something I never know if I'm going to need a 5/8 socket or a 14 mm socket, NOT.

Jim always uses the metric system, cause at 12.1 CM his member sounds bigger :D

My science teacher was a lier then. He is/was also a child molester so it shouldn't surprise me.

Can you believe that everyone that has gone to my home town school knows he dates his 9th grade students and yet, nobody has done anything about it?

Yep...it is the weirdest thing. Everyone knows but nobody does anything. If I had the proof needed, I would do something. Needless to say, my daughter will not be attending any of his classes.
