How does this freesite look..

Just finished making it.
How does it look, are the pics to big?

Greenguy 2003-11-11 08:25 AM

Yeah - they're too big for a free site - I'd cut them down to 800x600 or 640x480 (they size they are now, a lot of surfers will have to scroll right and/or down to see the entire pic)

Plus, you need to have 10 pics per page for a free site for most listing :(

What Greenie said.

Wow, 464.88 KB for one of your full size pics.

Why has the board been down?

How do my pics look now? |bananna|

Greenguy 2003-11-11 05:09 PM

Server upgrades :)

The pics look better, but I thinkt tthey are still a but on the large side as far as file size goes (I know what you're thinking - 1st we tell you the one set sucks, now we're telling this set is too good - LOL)

What are you using to compress them?

Try compressing the original pics, but at 75% instead of 100% (if that option is available)

Typically, a 640x480 pic is around 20-50k - the 2 I looked at were 70k & 90K

I am using adobe photoshop and easy thumbnails.
I have fireworks and paintshop pro to.

This is how it looks in easy thumbnails..
What program is the easiest to do it with?
What do you do it with?
thanks.

You can compress in PaintShopPro but I use this as you can see exactly how the image will look as you're compressing it. You might be able to do that in PaintshopPro too, I'm not sure. There's a trial.

I made ImageReady doplets.

Medium compression, progressive, 640 on the long side. I just drag and drop my pics on the droplet.

chaldoray hi if your just starting out as i am all that pic editing takes a good time to learn thats what i am doing in spare time some of your easy to use html editors have a auto thumb tool its not as good at doing them as cleo or greens way but they will get your page submited then in the mean time you can learn how to do them right

i use frontpage but a lot of pros say is junk but it will get u started then down the road you can use the more advanced ones

chaldoray 2003-11-12 04:28 PM

Files sizes are still too big IMHO :(

In CompuPic, to do a batch conversion & change the sizes of a bunch of images at once:

1 - select all the pics you want converted
2 - Go to "tools", "batch conversion", "advanced batch conversion"
3 - Check the box for "size, crop & border"
4 - Click "edit setting" for same
5 - Check "reduce if above" & enter your new dimensions - click "ok"
6 - Click "convert"
7 - It will then ask you what compression % you want to use - try 75%

It will ask you if you want to rename the pics & whatnot - that's up to you :)
