Rudeness on ICQ

When I get an authorization request on ICQ that I'm not expecting from a person I don't know I ask them why (to weed out spammers etc). Here's a transcript from a convo I just had:
Quote:

Lemmy (09:37 AM) :
Give me a reason why I should authorize you.
RachaelStar (10:00 AM) :
you aint gotta authorise me you fool
RachaelStar (10:00 AM) :
total idiot
Lemmy (10:00 AM) :
Then why did you ask?
RachaelStar (10:00 AM) :
I was gonna ask for a link exchange
RachaelStar (10:00 AM) :
but you have a stink attitude
RachaelStar (10:01 AM) :
so Im glad we never got that far
RachaelStar (10:01 AM) :
cya
Lemmy (10:01 AM) :
Calling me a fool is a bad start I think...
RachaelStar (10:01 AM) :
yeah well you are
RachaelStar (10:01 AM) :
anywayI have things to do bye
LOL :D

Yea...that definitely sounds like someone you want to do some link trades with...NOT!

What a tool :(

SirMoby 2005-08-08 10:59 AM

I think you should find out about thier domains so that you can post them to make sure that no of your friends do a link exchange with such an ass.

MorganGrayson 2005-08-08 11:05 AM

I read that and my flabber is gasted. |ohhhhh|

That is one of the most amazing pieces of stupidity I've ever seen. To be that...oh, my...*that* amazingly rude to someone you intend to ask a favor of.

Lemmy 2005-08-08 11:24 AM

I haven't a clue who this person is, but I guess by revealing his/her personality like this he/she did me a favour; better to find out now then after I put up all their links.

I think the "Give me a reason why I should authorize you." question might have been a little too blunt for them and sent them off into a world of hate :D

I launch ICQ when I reboot then close it again. I like Messenger.

Lemmy 2005-08-08 11:33 AM

Yeah, I can possibly understand that, but all they had to do was say, "Hi, I'm interested in some trades".

This chick thought she was on Ricky Lake. Look how she spelled out her want-a-be street slang.
We live in a time when "the kids" think it's cool to disrespect people. Yes, I know I sound like Hank Hill.

Such is the time we live |cry|

Thank goodness for DOS nukes |bananna|

I think the first line did put her off side, she jumped on the defensive. Its one big problem with online messages, we shorten things, become possessive of our time and then people tend to misread what we say. I have it happen quite a bit.

I think its funny. Another day in the world of the net. lol. You should see some of my conversation with the super smart cam girls.

digifan 2005-08-08 09:26 PM

Her loss... my question is :who are you and what can I do for you?" It can be scary too sometimes :)

Useless 2005-08-08 09:32 PM

I usually ask if they swallow.

If I don't recognize their name, I usually just ignore them.

That is why I don't like ICQ people always asking to be on my list that I don't even know. It's just a pain in the ass to me. I have it on now as I'm trying to reach a sponsor that is not responding... |angry|

You can configure ICQ to weed out the vast majority of the spammers/scammers/assclowns...

Running in invisible mode (so only those on your contact list can even see you're online)...and requiring authorization to be added to anyone's list helps a ton!

Glad to be of assistance Sue :)

ICQ used to drive me nuts with all the assclowns spamming the damn thing. Now, don't recall having gotten one of those messages for at least a couple months :)

amber438 2005-08-09 03:24 PM

I'm invisible all the time too and that helps quite a lot!

Useless 2005-08-09 05:08 PM

I've found leaving it off until MML calls and swears at you for not turning ICQ on works pretty well for cutting down spam as well.
