What's your opinion on dashes? -
What's the difference in naming this way:
http://www.sexporn.com/matureporn.html as opposed to: http://www.sex-porn.com/mature-porn.html or: http://www.sex_porn.com/mature_porn.html |
Underscores don't count as a space so SE's will read these in the same way:
http://www.sexporn.com/matureporn.html & http://www.sex_porn.com/mature_porn.html The - between words counts as a space for the SE's and thus it will look at each keyword and phrase. And that's what you want it to so go with - :) |
Yo Ynuahayt! That's good to know that SE don't see the underscore _ as a space!
So is a dash better than no space between two keywords or what? |
From what I heard, G will see some _ as a space if the words separated by it are common, easily recognizable words (e.g. bacon_and_eggs). Yahoo seems to have less of a problem with underscores -- just something I noticed.
There was a longish thread about this a few weeks ago. |cool| |
ponyman youre awesome, I just came here to ask this same question and see youve already got me some answers :D

I think I only have one domain with a dash, christmas-vacation.com
Tons of traffic :) |
I personally don't like dashes, they seem a bit like second handed domains, you should always try to get the domain without dashes. Google is for example smart enough to know what words is in domain: "mysuperdomainname".

Personaly, I like the dashes. Helps to get domains that may already be taken without those spaces. Google may be smart enough to seperate many "all one word" domain names, but other engines may not do so well. Using dashes is a great way to target specific key phrases. MSN search loves em.
People dont realy care about a domain name, they are clicking links and rarely making direct requests. If they like the site enough to come back they will bookmark it, so again they just click to it. Hey |Jim how does that domain get tons of traffic with no content on it? Just a large font title. Not even in H1 tags. |
Make sure you own both the non-dash and dash name. Forward one to the other. If you don't you'll lose traffic.
