Confused on what is really a vid cap! (Cleo)
 

Hi,

I think I am still a bit confused about what is considered a vid cap and what is not.
I've submitted this site last night to Cleo, and it was rejected because it had vip caps.

The "jaggies" and horizontal lines on the first site's pics are a pretty clear giveaway. Some of the pics also look like one of photoshops artistic filters have been applied to them. Not very good quality.

A quick glance at the 2nd site looks much better.

Most vidcaps look kinda crappy, that's why they're not allowed, but some are quite good and I would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

If you see scan lines around the edges of their body parts it is a vid cap. Or if everything is kind of in soft focus. Or things moving are blurred.

Yeah that second one is vid caps too. :(

Yeah those are vic caps too.

What happens is frames from video are often blurry but because we are seeing many per second we see them as in focus but when we try to use just single frames as pics they look like crap.

When we shoot stuff for FoxyAngel we actually shoot with both a still camera and a video camera taking turns at which camera we shoot with. Either that or do all the scenes twice. It is a lot more work but the only way to get quality stills.

I can say that I list vid caps but only from very long time submitters and they must look good... also whenever a why didnt my site get listed because of vid caps and you look at a few and say dam those look good to list BUT look at a few more and the blurs stick out like a sore peter...

When I used to work in the photo world. I was taking some of the vids from pleasure productions (if anyone remembers them ie "girls will be boys" hum circa early 90's) anyway they paid us big bucks back then to get quality material for their remaning image spots for their boxes. The covers were always done in major shoots. $10 per slide, color corrected and matched in density. Mostly done by hand, eye and machine for the computing important stuff. They were sending us 500 to 1000 slides minium. I don't think you can ever get that good with the standard home computer.

Lots of LL don't accept Vidcaps.

I think vidcaps, if they are good, are an excellent way to promote a sponsor, as most of the surfers nowadays are looking for movies, and to see stills from the movies really turns them on, and hopefully they want more!

I accept them if they are good. But you must be a real person with good whoois info.

that's why it's so important to read the rules at each LL, and go back to read them again once in a while. Some are very explicit about not accepting vidcaps. I personally will take them only if they look really good - some are really small and blurry. I've seen some really awful vidcaps - blurred motion, some with just an elbow lol

bottom line, if I was a surfer, would I get turned on by the pic, or would I just think "what a crappy pic". Doesn't help you sell the site, that's for sure ;)

Same here about vid caps. If they are very good ones I will accept them, but if I see jagged edges or soft focus or blurred motion then I hit delete.

I understand both opinions on this one. But I am more on you side ponyman. I even sometimes myself get aroused more by a crappy looking vid cap than a quality photo, and I am sure I am not the only one like that.

But it's all in the hands of the LL owner, so if I want to get listed I better follow their rules, not mine :)

I do accept very good screen caps, but due to that "interlace issue" they're very seldom
