Holy Crap

Cat 5 heading towards NO. I hope something can slow or stop this massive storm down. They're saying that it's the strongest storm they have seen since '69, and it's heading the worst possible place it could.
My best for anyone down there. Please leave if you can....

Toni KatVixen 2005-08-28 09:20 AM

I was really hoping that it would die out after hitting southern Florida.

It hasn't hit New Orleans yet, but my fingers are crossed that it weakens some or misses them. :(

Cleo 2005-08-28 09:33 AM

Not looking good at all for them. :(

Katrina is one nasty mean bitch!

Torn Rose 2005-08-28 09:53 AM

ABC World news talked to the NO city manager Friday night, he said that if they got hit by a cat 4 to expect the dead to be 10,000 plus and that the city would be under water for 6+ months.

It would take 72 hours to get 60% of the city evacuated, and I'm sure that is in perfect conditions.

Don't walk, RUN...

sue-fl 2005-08-28 10:25 AM

I just got done watching the news. This is really bad for those people. A storm that big will wipe out a lot of that city. I hope it weakens but it's not expected to. It's going to be a real mess.... |angry|

jennym 2005-08-28 10:36 AM

Man this sucks. Guess we will be out of power for a while. So, sorry ahead of time. :(

Linkster 2005-08-28 11:17 AM

Its gotten a lot worse - 175 mph sustained winds now - and evacuations underway from NO - this is now rated at the second worst hurricane ever in the US - worse than Andrew and Camille - and while Camille only killed 270 people it hit east of New Orleans - I just hope people get the hell out of New Orleans now - if this thing hits head on its going to be an amazingly bad disaster
Unfortunately there are too many people there that think this is something they can ride out - I guarantee you that the mayor would not be ordering a mandatory evacuation fo the city and the president going on tv soon to plead with people to leave - cause they know whats going to happen with the thousands (or loads more) getting killed due to their own stupidity

Torn Rose 2005-08-28 11:38 AM

News said Bush has already declared Louisiana a disaster area..... How bad is that when it hasn’t even hit yet?

Ramster 2005-08-28 02:23 PM

This is not looking good at all. Hope it all works out.

FanTC 2005-08-28 03:04 PM

I'm in Long Beach Mississippi about a block and a half off the beach. As it stands, we are supposed to get the NE quadrant of this thing, and have 35+ feet of water roll in. If that's the case, my house will be sitting under 29 feet.
They are expecting us to get winds between 130 and 160 mph for at least 12 hours curfew goes into effect tonight at 9. We are leaving to go inland about 10 miles at 4 or so. Hopefully we'll have something to come back to in a few days.

On a business note, I'm pretty sure I'll be way behind on reviews at portal-to-porn, so please bear with me, I'll get to them when I have a roof and power again.

MrYum 2005-08-28 11:20 PM

Ouch...yea, this fucker is looking nasty :(

FanTC...excellent choice...get the hell outta Dodge!

Winds were up to 184 for a while, but have lessened to 160 now...very ugly for NO. Hope everyone got out while there was time. And for anyone in the surrounding area...hang on tight!

mOrrI 2005-08-29 05:33 AM

I saw it this morning on the news...
it's not looking good....
and (i didn't know) NO is bellow sea level :S

hope it doesn't hit NO....
(fingers crossed)

Torn Rose 2005-08-29 09:46 AM

CNN says the worst for NO will hit and be over in the next 90 mins.

Also conflicting reports of the super dome losing some room, at first they say a "large section" and then they are saying a "three by five foot section".

Yesterday CNN had a guy standing in line with the thousands waiting to get into the Superdome and he starts talking about how no one knows if the Superdome will with stand the storm....

um, why not just go in there and scream fire or bomb? There is a time and place for everything and that was neither for that report.

Cleo 2005-08-29 09:47 AM

CNN is reporting that the roof of the Super Dome is coming apart and that the National Guard is trying to evacuate the 10,000 people that are staying there.

They are also reporting that water is gushing out of the manholes in the street of New Orleans.

Not looking good at all :(

I'm going to go out and continue my cleanup from this storm.

Useless 2005-08-29 10:09 AM

That far south, I assumed that they would have had an ark ready for this.

Linkster 2005-08-29 10:09 AM

I dont know why CNN does that kind of shit - the Natl Guard engineer that is in the Superdome just reported that they had to move the people to different seats - not evacuate them - they have two cloth panels that are 6 ft long that are torn - and dripping in one small spot in the Dome
This kind of misreporting is what causes most of the casulties with making people scared of something and going into a greater danger spot

Surfn 2005-08-29 10:24 AM

Fox reports that pumps are failing and one levee, in sector 9, is breached so far :(

Linkster, I think you should drive down to burbon street and do a live report for us.

:D

Linkster 2005-08-29 12:08 PM

Think Ill stay away from Bourbon St for a bit :) once they are over the flooding that is still to come - these news stations are acting like the whole thing is over already and its still just starting! Just south of NO there are people on their roofs trying to get help from the coast guard who wont go near them right now
I do know that one building has collapsed completely in the Garden Dist. and they dont know if the people are still in there or not

The real damage wont be known till tomorrow I think - a little east of NO - the last word was that they had at least 30 ft wall of water come ashore and inland

Surfn 2005-08-29 12:17 PM

It looks like it is hitting Biloxi and Mobile the hardest. NO is still in for a great deal of flooding...

Surfn 2005-08-29 12:33 PM

Now there are white caps on the streets of NO. Looks like a huge $$$$ recovery. I hope the deaths are minimal.

docholly 2005-08-29 12:41 PM

i heard on NBC news alert that the superdome was on generator power with limited lights and NO A/C. Wonder if they have right guard at the consession stands? They also interviewed some guy who stayed in his house close to downtown NO. He was begging for someone to come get him and had his hammer ready to break through his roof in order to not drown. |spaceship Maybe Anne Rice should have made that plea to get out of town instead of the mayor & President.

We have 3 cam girls who are in NO & area. hopefully they got out. I saw one was camming as late at 930pm last night. |hurricane

mOrrI 2005-08-29 12:55 PM

Man it's looks really bad out there :(

But, its that kind of reporting that drives up ad revenue.
