Anybody Here Afraid of the Celeb niche???

I'm tired for hearing the shit about about you need this and you need that and you can't do this and you can't do that...Let's get all you questions out now to the person who knows and the program that knows how to do it right... We even had two articles on us in USA Today Nov. 3rd.|bananna|

Surfn 2003-11-14 07:01 PM

My only question is when can I get more content to link :D

Hey my brutha, email me what you need and I will make sure you get it...Hank@mrskin.com

Cleo 2003-11-14 07:21 PM

It is a niche that I've never touched and don't accept at my link list.

BUT, I'm always open to new things…

So how does the whole image rights thing work?

Seems like I would only be able to use sponsor provided stuff in order to promote it.

Tell us more…

Dr Bizzaro 2003-11-14 07:25 PM

I have had a celeb list since I first opened my doors, going on 7 years ago....

I got 3 words for you Hank....FREE HOSTED GALLERIES!
(Or "Send me content", if the first 3 words are a no go.)

The only problem I ever had linking to Celeb galleries was a letter from Allyssa Miliano's lawyer about 4 years ago. It was laughable. I wish I would have kept it.

Same experience here. I trashed mine too.

Greenguy 2003-11-14 07:30 PM

Cleo - go get an account at Flash Cash (they have legal Mr Skin content)

AND

Get an account right from Mr Skin Cash

(there's advantages to having an account with each actually - LOL)

Build a few sites for your links using the content (odds are some of the older stuff won't get listed too much these days at other link lists) - make them the "Mr Skin Celeb Site Of The Week" or something like that - seeing as your surfers have not seen any celeb stuff, you might make a few sales from it :D

:D

Ramster 2003-11-14 07:39 PM

Cleo, that's all I have done. I used all the MrSkin free content and the site does convert well. People like their celebs to be nude. LOL

More free content would be good obviously Hank as this is not a niche you can buy content in.

Cleo Babe... Whatssup|smooch|

It's easy what we do fall under fairuse of the copyright law. We are just like Roger Ebert, we report the news as it relates to nudity in regular movies...All the pics and clips we use come directly fron the movies so the celebs have no say since the already sold the pics to the studio.

Since, we are on 500 radio stations, BBC, US Today, Wall Street Journel, Howard Stern on a regular basis and many others, we are legit news. No other Celeb site can say this and the movie companies like us cause we sell the videos on our site...They even send us the videos to review be fore they are released which further legitimize what we do.

We also never present the star in a bad light or do paparazzi stuff, or stolen stuff(like the Paris Hilton thing) which get's eveybody in trouble...We are here for the long term and it has been very successful for us.

We have been out here 4 yrs now with never a problem andf all the parties at be know about us... We do it right|bananna|

DrBizzaro, if you need a copy, I still have a copy of the one she sent us 3yrs ago along with a copy of the letter our lawyers sent back to them...BTW we have not heard from them since and they very well know who we are|bananna|

The content, I will call you and we will get it to you, my brutha|smooch|

Ms Naughty 2003-11-14 09:10 PM

Mr Skin, thanks for the explanation about how your site works... I've never actually known LOL

My next question is... would you ever consider expanding into the male celebrity niche? I think a lot of female surfers would dig that kind of informational site... and gays too, I guess.

Cleo 2003-11-14 09:19 PM

Cleo makes a mental note to join MrSkin. :)

Hosted galleries would really rock.

Hosted free sites would also really rock.

Surfn 2003-11-14 09:47 PM

I'm with Dr B and Cleo hosted galleries and sites would be great :D

RawAlex 2003-11-14 09:48 PM

I have stayed away from the celeb niche because there is no simple way to tell legal from illegal. I think the huge volume of celeb spam from Babylon-x in the day pretty much sealed the deal.

I cannot list the content on my link site because the majority of the sites I have seen don't appear to be legal, feature compsite nudes (celeb head, other person nude boy), or are hosted in very weird places and promote sponsors I wouldn't send my worst enemy to.

I would consider building sponsor content stuff from you Hank, because I am confident in the way you are doing business with the movie people. That is the most important by far! :-)

Yeah, damnit
What she said!!

Cleo 2003-11-14 09:59 PM

Yeah I would never open up a Celeb niche to submitters. As Surfn said I have listed some stuff from people that I know, but that is it. What Alex said.

Bake 2003-11-14 10:04 PM

I have thought about trying Celeb niche but Im unsure about content as I mostly do galleries I tend to use alot. Can you supply enough content to keep a full time gallery maker happy?

Verbal 2003-11-15 12:29 AM

What's up Hank,

I met you at the Midwest Gathering in Chicago a little bit ago (I was the one that had to bail early on the strip club fun). |waves|

A nice program you guys got there. I think I'll give it a go. |thumb

Peace,
Verbal

Kezza 2003-11-15 06:57 AM

I have promoted celebs with Mr Skin via Flash Cash, using their free content and have done very nicely... hard to get it listed on a lot of link lists... but SE's love the sites.

Link Fab lists celebs... and once again... that cat has always done well for me.

Actually,
We have thought about it for sometime, but thought people might think we were gay|jester|

It's in the works after some other niche celeb sites we are working on i.e. asian celebs, international celebs, celeb babes with big boobs, B movie babes, Horror Movie Babes and others like that|bananna|

Thanks for the vote of confidence Raw Alex, my man|lightsabe

Most will not do it right cause it takes alot of time, money and staff...It is very expensive to do.

How many people today would have a staff of 25 people, 40 contract writers and a legal team review everything you do for one site?

Bake, take a look at our site, nobody has more celeb content and we add new content daily|shake|

Verbal, whatssup dude...Next year you will have to learn how to hang|bananna|

Jim 2003-11-15 08:13 AM

Thank you Hank for clearing up the blanket statement, "if you don't have paper, it's not legal". At times, that just is not true.

Just so everyone knows...Hank is working on getting us some free content. As you can imagine, he can't just give us pictures and be done with it. Each picture will have to have a short review on the bottom of it to make it legal for all of us to use safely.

And looking at Greenie's example...If MrSkin offers Allissa Milano content, you know they are legal :)

MrSkin has always been a top notch organization and I have heard the entire story of how they started the site to make sure they stayed legal. They did do their homework. And, they really have no competition...it takes way too many people to go through movies and grab all the content.

I especially like that they recently switched from Ibill :)

I was gonna read through first and see if anyone had asked my question but then I saw this and had to quote it and say

I SECOND THAT!!!

And I've always been told that celeb is a niche to avoid like the plague, because the content is unlicensed.
Hank you said the pics you use are from movies - how do you guys get the license to use the screencaps from the movies?
I'd honestly love to do celeb but there's a big fear of getting sued there. :)
