Things do look quite different at the moment.

Nige 2003-11-15 03:16 PM

|waves| goodbye to hits from google. :(

DangerDave 2003-11-15 04:47 PM

There's definitely a lot of crap that just got thrown in.

But anyone notice a pattern? Whenever mixes of older SERPS listing get thrown into google, it normally precedes a larger update that is coming up?

Linkster 2003-11-15 06:43 PM

This update has been heralded by Google as the update to finally test out some major spam and trick page filters - they are doing a good job from what I see so far - but remember - this is going to be a real update so it takes a few days for the SERPs to settle down and all of the filters to come in - looks like backlinks and PR may get done at the same time?

although quite honestly Im not seeing the spam thats been around for a year getting moved out on any of the datacenters yet - some newer stuff is gone though

All I can say at the moment is THANK YOU Google and please please please be done moving things around for a few weeks LOL

urb 2003-11-16 04:00 PM

I noticed on one of my sites that the backward links now include the Yahoo! directory listing which went missing from the backward links a few months ago.

I don't know that they have some agenda against "xxx" or I hope they better not - lol. I had a number 6 or so for xxx and now am down to 20 something.

It wouldn't seem like there would be any reason for them to do it. If you are looking for "xxx" then you are looking for "xxx" - it's not like they have to worry about adult site preying on mainstream searchs.

I wouldn't panic yet.

Will do Kush - bit of a lazy weekend :)

Google are weeding out the "black hats". I don't think there is an agenda against xxx.

XPorn 2003-11-17 10:06 AM

Yeah Jay...

I was #11 and if you do a allinanchor:xxx I'm like #9......but in current google db I'm like 5 billion or something....
So I buy the fact they are trying to get spammers....but at some point I hope the add the anchor factor back in there!

how do you check your ranking if it's above 1,000?

DaCaptain posted googlerankings.com, but that doesn't track above the top 1000.

what do you use?

XPorn 2003-11-17 07:43 PM

Kush...

I was kinda kidding. ;-) I think I was like 792 or something....might as well been 5 billion.

Although....I have used a >1000 site in the past...and if I can remember the name I'll post it...

No they are still using google results, seems to be from the same index they were using a few eeks ago. You sites should be in the same position.

Best to let the dust settle before worrying. I've seen crazy shakeups like this before. Things eventually go back to normal.
