Where do you send your non adult exit traffic?

I've been putting an exit link on all of my sites for sometime now. The trouble is it all goes to a one page domain that I spent all of about 15 minutes on. I just noticed that it is getting a shit load of traffic so I'm trying to decide what to do with it to make some money off of it.

So what are some suggestions for some non adult sponsors?

I've thought some kind of geek goods type site since many computer uses are also geek types like ThinkGeek, but I don't seem to be able to find any that have an affiliate program.

Shoot me an ICQ Cleo, and later on we can talk about the mainstream sponsor I use on all my "leave" links.

I say "later" because I've been up all night working on a pile of grahics and banners for some clients. I'm bushed. Talk soon if you want though.

As you are probably aware I don't use "exit" links.

I think Surfn has the best policy here.... no exit links.

But everytime I promise myself not to use an exit link, I find that at the very last minute I have an overwhelming desire to add one to Google's home page. In the false hope that Googlebot will look upon my site in a more favourable light.

But if I had a load of existing traffic from exits....... I would use mild scare tactics and develop a page which is an online guide to safe surfing. Because anyone hitting this from a porn site will be doing so because they don't wanna see porn (or at least not wanna see porn on the PC they are currently using).

Everyone who hits this site will have one thing in common..... being online.

Tell 'em simply how to clear their cache, explain the risks of surfing without a firewall, frighten them about data miners, the holes in XP & 98, port scanners, distributed denial of service attacks, trojans, personal privacy, etc............

Once you have enlightened them as to the risks they face and how guilty they should be for ending up at a porn site warning page in the first place, then they should be open to at least considering buying something to cleanse their online sins.

Hmmm, I'm not sure telling your surfers to clear all their history stuff, especially cookies, is the best thing for your bank account.

This is the reason that I've never promoted one of those eraser things. I want them to have my affiliate codes stored in their browser for as long as I can in case they return at some time and buy something.

If they've hit exit the chances of them buying porn is pretty low.

MrMaryLou 2003-11-17 12:19 PM

I always have sent it to Here

Click to exit is good....... yes :D

But I still think fear is a great sales tool.

Surfn 2003-11-17 01:41 PM

IMO and I stress "my" - exits links are another traffic leak |sad|

Water tight is probably best.

It doesnt quite fit in the poll answers but I send exit link traffic to my own non-adult product.. not a sponsor.

IMO there is no downside to exit links and they are no traffic "leak".... If a surfer clicks an exit link they obviously dont want to be there..

IMO Links to Google have no downside, but the rumours about better rankings with links to SE's are just that rumours... believe what you want..

Cleo - Im in the "no exit" link crowd - but I believe that if I had an exit - being that 95% of the people that would be hitting my sites would be someone originally looking for something adult related - I would make up a page of "adult products" enhancers, toys videos any type of shopping which would increase the bottom line - Id also have a link on that page to go to a general adult site hub to filter for niches in case thats why they left.
Lastly, I would definitely have a button or link at the top of the page for those under 18 - and have that go to a non adult related shopping page on one of your domains that doesnt sound adulty :) not a search page with pay for clicks, but one that you set up through linkshare or cj selling all types of things :)

Agreed on the evidence eraser type sites - you would be just screwing yourself out of cookie tracking and sales

I'm of the opinion that every exit link should help you make money somehow. Traffic is pretty hard to come by, so why throw it away?

I don't think the notion of sending traffic to an Internet eraser is a terrible idea, since the people exiting would most likely want to avoid being caught with porn on their computers anyway.

On the otherhand, when I finally finish my adult site I'll probably send exit traffic to my general dating site. Porn, Dating, and Gambling seem to be the three major revenue earners online.

I am of the no-exit clan, but one thing to consider is that if you are sending all your exit traffic to the same page then eventually you're going to have decent PR to that page which you should be recycling back into your network appropriately.

docholly 2003-11-18 10:27 AM

we currently send ours to our non-adult lottery site but since i think they are either out or going out of business..i'm gonna switch it over to a little one page site with trivia/quotes etc.. that has some of our link-share mainstream links on it.. maybe rotating posters from allposters, books from amazon.. not quite sure what all.. but maybe if we go with the amazon idea, i'll put 'What teens need to know about Sex" or something like that..

Not that one teen ever ever ever hit the exit button..

LMAO..

Dr Bizzaro 2003-11-18 04:06 PM

I send it all to RedBrain.com !
