Does the ID info need to be in Western Alphabet to comply to 2257?

In the following thread:

http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...5&pagenumber=2

...near the bottom Paul Markham2 states...

"Not sure about kick backs, but I do know that when we were in the Phillippines we could do anything so long as we paid the right people. But that does not get around 2257 and if the IDs are in Sanscript who knows what they say."

That tweaked my brain cells a bit. For you content providers more familiar with 2257, does a models ID need to be in the western alphabet in order to comply with 2257?

Meaning, even if the model is 18 or over, has an ID, and there is a photo and DOB on the ID, but it is in say Thai or Japanese, etc...is this non compliance with 2257?

Of course I understand this is *not* legal advise...looking for experienced opinions.

I would like my site to be very much compliant and I am trying to be PROactive rather than reactive on any potential issues.

TIA

I would say that yes, it does, seeing as the 2257 pertains to US laws.

GG,

Thanks. Better safe than sorry IMO.

As an off topic deal:

Does this mean as a rule official legal documents from other countries are useless unless some special translation is made?

Have we (the US) adopted an official language?

I'm not a lawyer, so whatever I say doesn't mean jack shit - LOL - but I'd say, to be safe, if you're doing business in the US, have all your paperwork in English.

I knwo if someone sent me documents in another language, I'd go back & ask for English versions.

Makes good sense. ;)

In most countries across the world the date of birth is written in common western style digits. And I would guess that if you're relying on photos of a typical ID next to the girl's face it should be enough to get a one-off translation of the empty template, as long as the IDs are all the same template - then anybody with an IQ of over 90 can figure out "o.k., this is where the name's written, this is the date of birth" etc.

As they say in Thailand (and all over Asia): "Same, same, but different" |peace|

It needs to be in English so you understand it and anyone else looking at it understands it. Having an underage model on your site will not be excused becasue you could not read the IDs

The model needs to be signing a contract in her own native language so there is no "I did not understand what I was signing" excuses. You need it in English.

This is called "BEING CAREFUL" not what the law says.

Paul,

This makes good sense to me now that you put it in perspective.
