All about movies

Okay, I'm finally getting back into making freesites. I haven't submitted any for months and months, but since I'm still making decent revenue from my old sites that I submitted around a year ago.....I'm back, baby! I've kept myself busy promoting online poker. Hint: you can make $150+/sale in the poker market...

Anyways, I've always made my sites with pics, and never done anything with movies. A few simple questions:

What program(s) should I be looking at for "chopping up" a full length movie? What settings should I use? Is there a preferred file type (.mpg, .wmv)?

Can I just add .mpeg (or whatever file type I make them) to my .htaccess for hot-linking?

Is there anything else I should know?

Thanks!

I used Easy Video Splitter, but I am by no means an expert. I used it because it was Easy. :D

As for file-type, I've seen both but I think the consensus is mpeg if you can for compatabilty sake.

As for htaccess, I would say yes. I used Cleo's htaccess help page and according to that, it looks like this:
RewriteRule (gif|jpg|png|swf|mpg|avi|GIF|JPG|PNG|SWF|MPG|AVI)

Hope that helps.

I'm a cheap fuck, so use Windows Movie Maker that comes with XP (and a couple other MS OSs if I remember rightly) it's easy as pie :)

ps it will only save as .wmv which I've heard is not the safest format, so that's something to conider.

Video Charge is a great little program for slicing up video clips and I think it's only $39.

I would go with mpgs, because even though they are a minority, some Netscape users can have problems viewing wmv clips and even if they are a small %, it's still a % of sales you could lose because they can't view your video clips.

Just a quick note for anyone who does movie freesites...you absolutely CANNOT block hotlinking of movie files with .htaccess...it doesn't work that way with video files (something with blank referrers). Contact your host about it or get the script found at antihotlinking.com installed...save yourself some money... hotlinking of movies is still rampant.

Yes saving it as a .wmv is the best way, i agree with Jel on that.

Good luck on your new free sites
