Haha that looks like a fucking blast!!! If I only had a few extra days I would certainly fire up the high speed Dremel and tear some discs up.

I saw this exact same thing on a show called MythBusters. They did an experiement trying to blow one up with a high speed CDROM, didnt work for them, but when they attached the CD to either a dremel or a router (wood router, with like cutting bits) it exploded big time. With enough force to penetrate a human body to a depth of like 2 inches!!! Aint ya glad CDROMs have that metal case? Interesting side note here, CDs look very cool after they have been in a microwave for a few seconds!
Did it do any damage to any other components inside the machine?

Omigod, Sun, this happened to me a couple of months ago! I was playing the Sims (shh!) and then BANG - I swear it sounded like a gun shot. I had no clue what had caused the sound. Then I got a game error...and the realization dawned...

Couldn't open the drive. Removed it and little bits of Sim scattered everywhere. Finally managed to get the door open...thousands upon thousands of bits. I haven't opened up the drive itself, but if I shake it, it sounds like a maraca, and more bits fall out every time...

After reading through the links, I guess we should be happy neither of us lost an eye!

It happened to me too while I was playing the Sims. I was most upset!|pissed|

Bwah! So is EA using sub-standard disks, or are our beloved virtual-people rebelling against us?

I was going to write a humorous-yet-pleading letter to EA and ask for a replacement, but with Sims II coming out in January I figured I'd just wait, and use the interim to detox, or something...|goodnight

Now the RIAA has finally taken this war against piracy a little too far!
