Google Alerts Anyone?

Do you use Google Alerts (G automatically sends you collection of new pages based on keyword)?

If you do.. what topics are you presently keyed on? How useful do you find them?

I use it a lot off and on. Presently I'm only keyed on "supreme court" for a project I'm working on. But unexpectedly it's turned out really useful for staying up on international events because G sent supreme court links from every country it catalogs.

How'bout you?

I use it for a multitude of things. For example I use my favorite actors and actresses names to find out what upcoming projects they are working on. And any dirt or pics I might be able to use as news on my celeb blogs :)

Ummm, don't usually admit this in public, but I use them to keep track of info on my favourite SF series (Dr Who).

Is there still news of him? It's still going? OMG. I had the entire collection ) up to that time) on beta and carried them around with me for years. I looked at them one day and said "this is going to hurt but I'm not moving those boxes one more time"

It stopped for a few years when the BBC was run by a guy who hated Sci-Fi, but it came back again last season. The new series differs from the old by the fact that it has a big budget, with big name stars and expensive special effects. It is has been shown all over the world, and is sweeping the boards at TV award ceremonies.

However no US channel has taken it up because one of the recurring characters is bisexual. It is done subtly so that the kids won't know what they are inferring, and most adults will take a few references to realise (one of those things where you are watching the TV and suddenly think "hold on a moment, did he ....?"). But unfortunately the major US broadcasters are too worried about right wing Christian viewers objecting, and it is so big budget that the smaller companies cannot afford it. Maybe in a few years time you might get the older episodes, or perhaps HBO might buy the US rights if you are lucky.
