2257 WTF! Shocked, Disturbed and Saddened
I have until now bought my content offshore. I bought a batch of content yesterday from a US supplier. As required by law, it has 2257 docs. I know this is not news, but I was "jaw droppingly" amazed to get a JPG of the model's drivers license and SSN. Not blacked out was her real name and birthdate. WTF!
Women are going to be killed by this insane law when mentally ill stalkers realize the goldmine at their finger tips. I know this is not news but today I was shocked, disturbed and saddened. ---art |
Not a good time to be a model in my opinion.
SSN is totally not relevant in determining a girls age. Maybe her credit history:) |
That is normal. How else can you tell if the model is of age? You need her real name and birthdate or it is useless.
|
Agreed - very normal - although I would expect that the SSN would be blacked out, the rest is required by law - no reason for 2257 if you dont know the models real name and age :)

Actually your SSN will tell a great deal about you, if you have the decoder ring. It will tell you the year it was issued, and so it is impossible for it to present an age older than the bearer; and also tells in which state it was issued. Finally, while I'm not sure if it is a coincidence or not, but the 5th & 6th digits of my own SSN are the year of my birth. |

2257 is like burning down a barn to kill one rat. |
Remember the ID can NOT have any blocked information on it. Many people use thier SSN on their driver's lisence which is not a good idea. Some model release forms even have the SSN on them for some unknown reason.
We know this law is not about protecting children. I think we can all make a good guess how Dubya's cleaning lady, Miers, will vote on this privacy issue when it hits the high court. |

[quote=artwilliams]SIN right? QUOTE]
No, I have both a SIN and a SSN |

The 5th & 6th digits of mine are 26 which would make me 79. Well, they are not off very much so I guess that would be close enough for government work. |

Looks like some model releases are also used as a general employment form which would need the SSN/SIN for income reporting purposes. Gotta pay taxes, RIGHT!!!! |

I read today that Electracash verifies age by the last 4 digits of a SSN, so apparently the info is in there
|
The first 6 digits can give you a lot of info but they cannot give you an exact age - just a guestimate - and the state it was issued in is the first 3 digits so that parts easy. Im not sure how anyone could use the last 4 digits for an age verifiction unless they are running it through a validation service that guesses the approximate issue date based on a known set of numbers - however that is also flawed as most of us older folks didnt get a SSN when we were born like kids nowadays - we waited till we had to have one for our draft cards etc.
|
Well that's the law:(
