Do you sue flash banners

Some surfers have active x turned off

do you consider this when chosing banners

would you like to see more flash ads from sponsors

Torn Rose 2005-10-21 03:40 PM

lol... thought you was wanting to sue the people who use noisy flash banners...

Jel 2005-10-21 03:41 PM

I have no active x enabled, just can't get it to work on this system, but it's a constant reminder to me that not everyone can see them, so if I *did* have the active x facility, I prolly wouldn't use them, or at least not often.

I've made a fair number of sales using the old topbucks flash banners. But, they haven't come out with new ones in a while. And, a fair number of linksites don't allow them and AFAIK almost no TGPs allow them.

So, you have fewer places to use them, and most sponsors have pretty much stopped making new ones.

The CE flash HPAs and FPAs and dropdowns were pretty impressive to look at, but I didn't make any noticeable sales from them. Didn't use them that often tho.

I would use them on SE pages and linklist pages if more were available.

However, I also surf with activex turned off.

I tried them but found too many issues with them like not allowed at my places that I build for and then there is the issue with PCs.

I use a Firefox plugin to have them disabled unless I click on them. I enable the ones here once in a while (when looking for sponsors), but for the most part I never look at them. I'm sure a lot of surfers disable them too.

Tommy 2005-10-21 06:24 PM

I have active x turned off also

but i started using them in a few places and noticed good results

I am not sure I want them all over the place but....
more money is more money

Corleone 2005-10-21 08:24 PM

its all about the benjamins;)

but I think ~ 20% of your visitors won't see them because of old browsers, flash disabled...

juggernaut 2005-10-21 10:05 PM

I think more an more people are just plain out scared to turn any of that stuff on. The average user dont even know whats going on. They have a scary enough time shutting off pop ups. Give them and active x and they shit their pants thinking they have been hacked. Which in some cases could be true. I think the old addive would work best in the future in keeping it as simple as possible.

Yea, I used some flash banners on a few gay sites a couple years ago. They did pull pretty well at that time, but probably no better than a well written text link does today. I'd like to think my text has gotten better since then anyway :D

Agree with the others, these days...probably the majority of surfers would never see em anyway. Or, they'd trigger some alarm and turn off the sale entirely.

After so many sponsors wanted banners yanked a few months ago, I went text only on free sites for a while. Noticed text does pull as well if not better than banners. Just recently, I've started using banners again...primarily because it's easier than pulling the text out of my head at times |dizzy|

Long answer sorry...

Short answer is...nope, I don't really even consider using flash banners these days. Too many downsides to em.

Tommy 2005-10-21 10:32 PM

but if you go to a lot of big main stream sites like toyota.com

they are loaded with flash

I think the surfer that has activex set to prompt knows that those prompts are for a lot of different stuff

SirMoby 2005-10-22 08:50 AM

Accoring to IDC over 98% of all surfers can view flash animation.

Don't think the average surfer or even 90% of the surfers are sophisticated enough to change any setting in IE. At work where the IS department has control of the desktops then no one should be running active content but even there most IS departments don't have a clue.

Obviously too much animation will provide overload and defeat the purpose of any animation but a little here and there, why not?

Those 2% of surfers that can't see it are soffisticated enough to change thier settings or they're on a PC that can't access porn any way.

Hey Tommy,

I sent you an e-mail earlier today. Are you still taking new partner accounts?

tranza 2005-10-22 06:43 PM

Sorry for the off-topic btw...

Here's my reply to the topic:

I wouldn't use flash on any of my sites simply because I'd be losing traffic (as you said before). I never even look for flash stuff on my sponsors.

:)

Halfdeck 2005-10-23 03:52 AM

Some mainstream sites make my porn sites look like they were built in the stone age.

Flash is also fun to build, so it's definitely an option especially when I'm bored.
