anyone mind UNlinked images?
 

hi all, just want some input here...

I know we don't like thumb-like banners, but does anyone mind unlinked pics used to promote the sponsor? ie: using some pics from the tour, then putting some linked text underneath it. The pics would remain unlinked.

If they are clearly an ad & not used like in TGP2 galleries I'd be ok with it.

well they're pretty clearly part of the ad, so I'm going to go ahead with them. If anyone doesn't like it, I'm sure I'll hear about it :D

If they are done right I don't mind them. :)

Just post an example & we can tell you if we'd list them or not :)

I'm iffy on them as well, depending on how they're used. I see them used well and I see them just making pages look crappy :)

ok, here are the two I want to use
unlinked pics

they are each on a gallery page, the real thumbs are in a table with a very obvious border. This is exactly how the ads will look.

lol - the text looks pretty funny out of the context of the site. But those are my aff codes in there, so if anyone feels the urge...hehe ;)

edit - oh ya, the reason I want to use them is lack of promo material, but I love the site tour hehe ;)

Here's what I just don't get about the unlinked images:

When I'm reviewing I try to put myself in "surfer" mode. When I mouse over something that looks like it ought to be a thumb linked to a full sized pic and it isn't, it irritates me. Not that I'm the end-all-be-all of advertising analysis, but I just don't see a good reason for them.

That said, as long as those are clearly separated from the actual thumbs I could list a site using those ads.

I'll list it as long as there is text between them and the actual thumbs. :)

I agree, MadMax - and from a reviewer's point of view I hate it because I'm never sure if a couple weeks down the road they'll end up linked somehow ;)

but, like I said, there isn't a lot of promo material & I don't want to use the same stuff over & over if I'm going to be building a few sites for it. I already asked the sponsor about using pics from the tour so thats ok.

I want it just to look like an example of the quality & content of the pics on the tour.

I have a real issue with the images at the bottom not being linked to pictures or movies. They look EXACTLY like a thumb gallery, and in my mind serve only to cause the surfer to click around randomly trying to see why things are not working.

I don't tend to want to list these sites.

ok, now I see what you mean. well, yes I would have to agree with you there. the unlinked images are the same size, quality and content as the real thumbs, and do look like they should be linked :(

Agreed Alex, I wouldn't list that one either. Actually, I had to go back and pull it up again...cuz I didn't click the first time. Just assumed it was a mix of pics and vids. Those bottom thumbs definitely look like they should be linked.

I thought the same thing when I saw it first... a nice mix of videos for higher bandwidth people, picture for lower... but no, the pictures are not linked, but are part of the promotion of the paysite.

So, they get pretty much a decline direct. It's too bad, the sites aren't horrible otherwise.

hmm that page and layout looks very similar to the submitter that used that gallery on about all the sites ever subbed to me.. he quit subbing them when I quit listing them a long time ago..
