Happy Generate Your Own Power Hump Day
Fucken Morning All. :)
Another day on generator power. I have a feeling I'm going to be one of the last restored Nov. 13 people. Two more days of fuel left and then I get to lug cans cans to the gas station. At least there no longer is any lines for gas. Going to the hand doctor today and a few other errands but should be around the rest of the day working. Hopefully the doc will put a much smaller splint on my hand but I am getting pretty good at being a lefty. :D Espresso and another five gallons of gas for the generator is now being served. |
Morning all,
Later today I'm gonna get a haircut (on Torn's request :D ). I still can't bend my pinky finger so that kinda worries me a little. Other than that it's business as usual, have a nice day. |
Good Morning
Long, terrible night last night with my cats going to war with each other. Damned cute when I'm awake, damned annoying when I'm trying to sleep. Long day of work ahead, but since my power is being provided by the electric company I'll stop bitching :D |
Good Morning people.
Cleo Still on the generator? Wow, hope you get power soon. |

Most people still do not have cable or internet access. Angel has had power for days but no cable or internet and her satellite dish got blown away along with a piece of her roof so no TV either. I'm guessing she will have about 8000 e-mails when she gets back online. We are still under boil water and over half of the traffic lights are either blown away or just not working. I still can't find a working ATM machine to make a bank deposit but I haven't really looked beyond the few around me. |
Morning guys,
Last night, I opened the back door and a huge racoon tried to dart inside. I slammed the door shut but it stayed outside the door for 10-20 minutes, refusing to let my cats in. I wonder where those things come from and how the hell they survive in the middle of the city? Have a good one |peace
morning all |waves|
coffee is on racoons love garbage:) |
Raccoons get in my house through the cat doors. Nothing like taking a piss in the middle of the night and realizing that I'm there with a family of raccoons wondering my I'm sitting on their water.
Raccoons are very cleaver and cute but wow does their bite hurt. Opossums get into my house too but they have to be one of the most stupid creatures. Unlike raccoons when you try to chase them back out they can't even remember how they got in and if you open a few doors for them they are so blind that they run right past the open door. Fucking ugly little things too. Had one climb into a stereo wall unit a few years ago, and I guess couldn't find its way out, and died. The smell really was beyond description. |
Good 2nd morning.
Have my daily chiropractor appointment at 9:45, so I have to get up around 8... way too early for me. So went back to sleep again after I got back and I woke up at 3:30 PM again. Cleo, sounds like you have a small zoo at home ;) |
Good late Wednesday morning everyone |waves|
More work on my stats today & then off to see the Sabres beat the Sens :D |

Take some pics & sell them to me- I have members who want to see this! (seriously) |
Good morning all |waves|
Yep, racoons are smart lil critters...downright clever. We have one that adopted us when it was a juvenile...comes back here daily for a meal of dog kibble. Loves to lay up in an oak tree and play with branches...very cute :) Wouldn't be so cute inside the house though :D Time for werk! |

I'm from the other side, Sorrysota and we were always so smug because the bad stuff never really came into the bay. I lived on the water and my house was at the top of the block with a 12 ft elevation and the water always came up the street and religiously stopped at my neighbors house. They were good people but I knew they just hated me. How is Ft. Meyer's, Naples, in the same state you are? My last experience was like what 83, 84? Hurricane came cut K C key in half. My friend never saw his 3 mil (in 84 dollars) house again. So I'm walking along the Chicago lakefront late at night about a month ago with my german shepherd who is very big, bold, and fearless. All of sudden in the still of the night he gives a yelp and jumps straight up into the air. I of course nearly have a heart attack myself. After thirty seconds of trying to figure out what the hell.. I turn and can see in the moonlight TWO HUGE (lynx size) racoons and just sitting there looking at us like how dare we distrub them with no intention of moving. Now we have some football sized rats who are bold here but I've never seen anything like that. Needless to say, we turned direction and went back the way we came. The dog wouldn't stop looking behind for two blocks |pokefun
Morning all! I have to agree about racoons they are to clever. We were camping one weekend and I heard the tent start to unzip. In comes a racoon grabs a loaf of bread and heads back out. Scared the shit out of me as I didn't know what was or who was coming in the tent!!
Have a good day all!! |
We lost power again from early Monday evening until late Tuesday afternoon. Seems the salt spray dried on the insulators on the power poles, and when we finally got a little clean rain Monday night, the salt melted, ran down onto the wooden cross-pieces on the poles, and started about 30 pole fires. Hopefully two days of light rain has washed all the insulators clean now, but I won't be surprised if we have another day or two of problems until we get some heavy rains behind us.
Raccoons, oh yes, they're definitely all over the place down here. Usually we see them fishing in the canal when the shrimp and snook are running through. But recently they've been coming up the outside steps to the upstairs screen porch and coming in to see what they can find. One cat had a run-in with one already, so now it's bleach bombs (balloons) to let them know to look somewhere else. Working away as usual here, just haven't been on the board as much because there's so much to catch up on after 7 storm-related multi-day power and Internet outages. Lots of empathy here for Cleo and others still suffering with generator power, or no power at all. This country has to get a lot better at getting people back to normal much more quickly. Simon |
I get to be Mr. Portable Power at a wedding Saturday.
everyone else gets to bring light things. I get to bring 40 gallons of fuel, generator, as much ice as I can carry, etc. :) |
Went and saw the hand doctor. It did not go well. I don't think that there is anyone better at whining and dishing out guilt then a Jewish man from the former U.S.S.R.
Says I may have ripped a stitch on the tendon so the outcome may not be as optimal and I could even need more surgery in six weeks but until I'm more healed he really doesn't know. Then he starts whining that I didn't get the splint replaced on Monday, didn't know that I was suppose to, and I need to go have it replaced tomorrow. Then he starts getting on my case for needing such a fancy car when I told him that my car is a stick shift Corvette and driving is a bit difficult with my hand in a splint. Told me that I should not be so spoiled and be without power instead of fueling a generator. He even made a phone call to the splint person telling them that I'm a nice person but a terrible patient and how disappointed he is with me. Personally I think the hand is fine and just very, very swollen. I'm one of those people that really swells up when I have any kind of surgery. But yeah I am a terrible patient who can't sit still. :D |
What's a "power hump"?
And why would I want to generate one today? |

Morning..
in my next life i want to come back as a very wealthy snobby biatch.. I was never a "car" person, but i can tell you i'm drooling over some of these cars at SEMA. Man oh man. there is this candy apple red one that is just da bomb. Tho i'm not crazy about having a dvd lcd screen in my steering wheel. and the SWAG at this show is awesome.. i have free cards for xm-radio, 20 free downloads from Napster. a 2gig Ipod. pretty kewl on the give-aways.. better than the usual tee shirts/pens and caps tho we got tons of those too. I'm off to recap cards and prepare for tomrrow. Cleo: Maybe the dr. should retire and become your houseboi. |
