Old arcade games?
Anyone into collecting old video arcade games?
I may have just started to get into this. I got this for my upcoming 40th birthday: http://billtracyphotography.com/posting/HangOn.jpg I was addicted to this game when I was in my early 20's - lol!! Bill |
Nice.
I've always wanted to buy or build a classic arcade cabinet and put my PS2 or Dreamcast (before I sold it) behind it. I'd hook up an arcade style pad to it of course. Something like this MAME cabinet: http://www.triplo.com/ev/arcade/ |
That's nice!!!

My next quest is a Galaga upright.
That's my wife's favorite game. |
That's a sweet game and Galaga still rocks. I found an old Missile Command game in an arcade at the beach when my wife and I took our first vacation. I knew she was a winner when I spent about 2 hours playing the game and she just saw the look in my eyes and left me alone :)

Oddly enough I have a functioning MAME cab. I don't play it as often as I would like.

the best PC based Galaga is here http://www.warblade.as/index.asp done by the same guy that did the great amiga version :D |
Man, I would love to have Tempest and a game most people don't know/remember called Space Zap. I used to go into the zone on that thing.
btw tortus... the stool is a nice touch! |
I remember in my "20s" when they came out with the first pong standup game - amazing the hours we used to play at it
If I remember correctly ARS used to have (and may still) some of the old arcade game boxes in their rewards store - I seem to remember looking at the MsPacman at one time - but went with something a little more usefull LOL |
Pong, missle command, asteroids, and of course PAC :)
Many a night spent on those in a bar, no wonder my ratio of actually getting laid went down when I was in my early 20's...lol |
Very cool birthday gift tortus32!! My husband and I played asteroids for hours many nights damn that brought back some memories. |thumb

Sweet gift!
I used to have a couple of the old pinball machines. Had a blast with those things...would always enable the coin slots when friends came over...those quarters piled up :D |
I was a whore for Rygar -- a game a lot of people don't remember. When I was like 9 I promised myself when I could afford it, I'd buy the stand-up version for my home.
When I learned about MAME I just did that instead. This thread inspired me to play a bit last night. :) |
space invaders was my addiction..that and pong..god I spent hours playing both!!
|
If you would like all of the old arcade games for your computer to include pacman tron galaga asteroids, basically all of them let me know, I have all for your computer called mame32 (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) it has all of the games and then some.

I used to have a lot, never backed them up because I assumed I could just download them again if I needed them, then when my drive crashed and burned I discovered the copyright problem. |
I can put a copy of what I have on a server for ya, let me know when you are able to download and I will put it up.
|
i built a mame machine , sits in the pc room right next to the juke box that i built ,
the mame cabinet i was lucky enough to find behind a fish & chip shop , it was getting thrown out , it needed a bit of work done to it , but it was in pretty good shape , saved me a few hundred for the shell mame , well i started off with just amiga/c64 emulations then branched out |
very nice :)

Nice!
I would love a Defender / Stargate box. I played it a ton in university. I saw brand new replicas in a catalog for US$3200 but that is too rich for my blood. ---art |
Asteriods was my game of addiction back in high school, then they got deluxe asteroids. Centiped was the other hot game. I remember the first game console I got, Intellivion, what a piece of crap.
