Now you are just being paranoid urb. |pissed|

What would Google have to gain from data mining your search habits?

They're logging every single search Dave. :)

Urb - theyve been tracking clicks for a long time - this toolbar just helps them get ready for the MS version of search where they will only show results based on your previous surfing habits :) - takes geo-tracking to a more personal level :)

Urb do what I do and never leave home without wearing a wok on your head.

PS: don't forget to wrap your pets in aluminum foil.

wicked1 2003-11-30 08:24 AM

I agree With Cleo 100% on wrapping your pets in Foil, it helps to lock in the flavour and also works wonders on your baked vegies as well.

And if you can't find a Wok fo your head like me I grabbed a Bed Pan,just make sure it is empty and clean before you pop it on your head..

:)

Actually URB There has been much writen on the spying done by Google,I read a lot of it,some made me laugh and some was scary, but most is based on pure speculation becasue we have no idea what they are doing behind the scenes do we ?.

www.alexa.com also spies on you as well.

I try not to let it worry me too much, As I don't do any searches on topics that may cause alarm to them, Unless they consider the fact that 99% of my searches are Porn Related :D

Seriously though, I can remember a couple of search engines which are no longer with us.

Both engines had a minor purge on porn related searches. Which made the users suffer as well as webmasters.

I remember someone saying at the time...... No tits, no hits.

DangerDave 2003-11-30 04:22 PM

I think people are a bit "free" with the term 'spyware'... both Alexa and Google make it clear the information that they collect.. and IMO both are for the most part reputable companies/systems.. Lobbing them in with the "spyware" crowd is a little unfair.

I have no problem at all using either the Google Toolbar or the Alex Toolbar..

DangerDave,

Something else just occurred to me.... you have a PM. :)

Surfn 2003-12-01 07:43 AM

I think most of us understand that when you click on a site, even if you clicked by accident in a search and click right off again, that the sites gather all the info about you in a mille-second. A lot faster than you can click your mouse. That said if you are really paranoid about being on the wrong sites and being discovered you shouldn’t be on the net. JMO

As far as what the search engines will do with the info, I find that I prefer my searches to find as many possible returns as they can. Limiting the return to what “they” think I want is not a free use of the web. Again JMO

There is some sense to what URB is saying.

They can monitor the searches with or without it though.

Jim 2003-12-01 11:19 AM

The only way to avoid tracking search patterns is to not use a search engine.
