Here we go again...

Not sure if you have seen the video, but perhaps if he would have sat the fuck down and shut up..... he wouldnt have gotten beat to death.

Anyone knows that wild animals are dangerous when hungry. They should have offered him some fried drumsticks and mashed potatoes with gravy before trying to take him into custody.

dareutwo 2003-12-01 08:24 PM

I had a really nice long 68 line post for here... then I deleted it.
Their actions were wrong Period.

Cleo 2003-12-01 08:47 PM

I have no love for the police. They have done me wrong on a few occasions. The worst part is no matter how wrong they do you the courts see no evil on their part. I have first hand experience with this, not something that I would talk about on the boards. There are some really seriously fucked up cops. :(

I did watch the video. He was on PCP and coke and out of control. He was a huge man, way bigger then the cops. What were they suppose to do? Wait until he grabbed one of their guns or something. They didn't hit him in the head or pull out their guns. All he had to do was stop trying to get back up.

I mean fuck you jump on a cop and start beating him what do you expect them to do?

Ten times bigger??? then wait for 10 policemen to take him down, how long would that take, 5 minutes for them to get there???

Granted, but I would bet there is at least one person... his mom, pastor, etc... that could have talked him down.

Extreme John - this story is far from over... instead of "Here we go again" could a different subject read "Was this the right course of action?"

I apologize in advance if I hurt any feelings, but I live this everyday.

Maybe cooler heads and logic should prevail.

Why can't people learn to take responsibility for their own actions? Yes, there are some rogue cops out there. I don't think anybody can deny that. And they should lose their jobs and be punished for their actions. But, it is not the cops job to "pacify" some guy that is hyped up on coke and angel dust. They don't have to try to call his mommy to come calm him down. The arrest him, and if he resists and attacks them, they have every right to protect themselves.

Sam Colt?

Cleo 2003-12-01 10:55 PM

I'm glad that the whole thing was caught on video. There is no question what happened, it is right there on video.

You know I bet that if I go jump on a cop they are going to beat the shit out of me.

Someone attacks me, I'm going to do my best to beat the crap out of them.

Dust is a truly nasty drug, you just loose all sense of reality. Coke will will cause you to do some pretty stupid shit too. He had both in his system. It sounds like his heart giving out is what killed him.

Ill strt out by saying that anytime someone generates a post like the one I generated, everyone will have a different opinion, so no hard feelings from me ever, and you wont hurt my feelings.

However, I do have a very large respect for Police, Service Men & Woman, Fire Fighters, etc. And just like in any business there's a few bad eggs, BUT as for me, the line of respect or anything else for the 350lb wombat that died, either because of the beaten or the drugs is gone. I saw the video, and from what I see he swings first, as far as im concerned I wish my cooler head would have prevailed, it wouldnt have ended with a nightstick to the throat it would have ended with a gunshot wound to the face.

Ill put myself in those 2 cops shoes, that fat piece of shit swings at me, and it's me and my partner squiqy from Laverne and Shirley? Im firing my gun, I have a family to feed and loved ones at home.

So sorry on this one, although YOU might live this everyday, you werent the one in the video, someone else was, I wasnt the cop in the video someone else was. Either way in MY OPINION which is nothing, he got exactly what he deserved, drug attic, cop jumping fat prick he is, or was. |angry|

I think it's terrible that someone has died, but it could have been avoided.

If you work in a zoo and a wild animal gets out of control.... what do you do?

You don't beat the poor thing to death, you use a tranquilizer.

I've seen a patient in hospital go crazy and start hitting out..... a needle in the arm stopped them in their tracks.

Jim 2003-12-02 11:13 AM

Don't most cops now carry stun guns so they don't have to beat a man to death these days?

Cops can defend themselves from anyone without having to kill him unless he has a gun pointed at them.

Cleo 2003-12-02 11:14 AM

I agree that the police should be given more options. I've never understood why police aren't given tranquilizer guns like they use on animals.

As far as I can tell they had a choice of guns, bare hands, or big sticks.

He looked like a big wild animal charging at them, just completely out of control.

urb 2003-12-02 11:25 AM

It's a case of panic.

When someone is deranged from drugs or for whatever reason, their fear of being hurt is just not there anymore. Reality takes a back seat, and whatever is in their way is the focus of their rage.

Hitting someone like that should be a last resort.

jennym 2003-12-02 11:32 AM

Stun guns are somewhat controversial, because they can often cause death in people with medical conditions such as heart problems. I am sure there are the same risks with tranquilizers. (BTW, this man had an enlarged heart)

I think the bottom line is...people need to be responsible for their actions. This man CHOSE to use drugs, he CHOSE to act in a way that the police had to be called, he CHOSE to fight with police officers to the very end. Unfortunately, that end was the end of his life. He could have CHOSEN at any time to end the fight, and he would be alive today.

Those officers put their lives on the line everyday, and deserve the right to protect themselves. If that man had come to my home and attacked me, I have the right to SHOOT his ass. But we expect police to go to the criminal, and then take a beating? The man was high on drugs, and out of control. The cops did what they had to do to be able to go home to their wives and children.

/end of rant ;)

I agree, but the police department should give them more options regarding personal protection.

In this case, the guy was using drugs, so I guess he did choose.

Hypothetically speaking, if this guy had not taken drugs, but was just mentally unstable beyond his own control, then there should be more options than hitting and shooting.

Scitum est inter caecos luscum regnare posse.

urb 2003-12-02 01:18 PM

Erasmus? That's deep. :)

Ramster 2003-12-02 02:53 PM

Stun guns they might have but when someone "lunges" at you you defend yourself with whatever you have.

My question is "beaten to death"? How many times did they hit this guy? That's an issue I think because if 6 of them were all beating him well that's wrong. But if the original two hit him a few times defending themselves and trying to handcuff him, then he (white or black, it's not a race thing) got hit liked he deserved to be. It's unfortuneate he died.

Police put their lives on the line all the time and if some high jackass isn't going to listen and try to get away or hurt the officers, fuck'em! (Again beating repeatedly is wrong when the suspect is subdued, I'm being general here)

jennym 2003-12-02 03:24 PM

6 cops did not beat him. The original 2 cops did. Then when other officers began arriving, there were enough of them to get him under control. Another thing we have to consider here is that he may not have died from the beating. Cause of death has not been determined yet. He was 400lbs, high on drugs, and had an enlarged heart. That fight was probably the most "exercise" his poor heart has had in at least 10 years.

So, my question is:

Does anyone think if this guy died of a heart attack that the cops are in ANY WAY responsible?

Jennifer

dareutwo 2003-12-02 06:47 PM

I'll have to wait and see the coroner's report.
Being overweight and using drugs didn't help anything.

The more I watch, the more I think maybe I was wrong.

hmmm, this one is getting tougher...
