damn host...

Just incase peeps are trying to submit sites for the last 5 hours, my directory pages that require the database have been offline thanks to our web host. So I just want to let everyone know hopefully it'll get back online shortly. I just sent them an email.

This has become a common theme with them so I told them last time which was January, that I will be watching closely. So, their luck ran out now; I need to change hosts. It's a shame because the first couple years I've used them they've been awesome and will admit when I send a support request, they are back with a reply in like 3 hours average (sometimes even by phone). But seems like last 6 months or so, they seem to be having regular occurances of down time for several reasons..

So, I'm now looking for a new one....Anyone ever use Verio ?

Glad I caught this thread. Just PM'ed you with a submission.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I never tried any adult host myself, so I don't have any good recommendations (started on dedicated from day 1).

hmmmm....I just woke up from working late and see that their mysql servers are STILL down ...now Im pissed, thats over 10 hours now!

Anyways tigermom, I will keep you and others informed of when the host is back up. Maybe I should set up my own server from home here...

I haven't uttered the words "my fucking hosting company" since I moved to colo-cation and the longest I have ever waited for a response was maybe 15 minutes (Sparky was grabbing a bite to eat).

Xeno 2006-02-19 04:55 PM

well....as it stands right now 2pm Pacific time, my host just sent a global email to everyone and it looks like downtime could end up being 24 hours for all dynamic sites for all host customers. I'd post their email with explanations here, but figured it would just erk me even more.

Long story short everyone....won't be able to submit sites until they get their acts together, which appears to be at least 8 hours away still. At least the mainsite pages and the directory categories are still up (html generated pages) for the surfers.

Sorry peeps

Ouch...sorry to hear that NetGoonie :(

I went through something rather similar last month...fuckin pain in the ass...and not a damn thing you can do but wait and fume |angry|

Best of luck on getting back online SOON!

Thanks MrYum....

I've pretty much started my search for another host (I have a couple in mind) and as much as I hate the thought of having to move multiple sites, it needs to be done. Then later this year, I am giving serious consideration to setup my own server in my place for total control.

Time clock: 22 hours offline so far.

Finally....submission pages are back online. Looks like my host finally got things up and running...sorry everyone about the 24 hour delay.

NetGoonie, sorry to hear about your host. If you looking for a host you should check out http://www.lelahosting.com . They have great support. Transferred everything over for us and a few minor problems on the transfer but solved the problems quickily.

Yea...sure sounds like it may well be time to jump ship!

We rely on hosting far too much to deal with crap like you're dealing with right now. I finally hit my limit last month and moved to who I consider to be one of the best in the biz. What a DIFFERENCE! Not only is the server/bw blazing fast...the support is top notch...what a concept :D

Not sure about housing the box yourself though buddy. Think about how much work you already have keeping up with your sites. Do you really want to ADD to your own work load? Trust me...you CAN find a host that will meet your needs...they are out there |thumb

Xeno 2006-02-20 08:34 PM

hehe....well, to be honest it wouldn't be that bad to have my own, but I do know there are some downsides to it. About 2 years ago I was planning on setting up a hosting business, but decided nope...that is just way too much stress. Sad too because I was designing a cool web site for it www.netgoonie.com but probably best I didn't go through with it.

MrYum 2006-02-20 09:12 PM

Aha! Nice looking site...and obviously you'd definitely have an edge in dealing with your own box |thumb

Agreed though...I sure wouldn't want to deal with people like me always wanting something fixed :D

Xeno 2006-02-20 09:39 PM

lol...yes I agree, not sure I could handle a constant flow of support tickets and emails...I'd go nuts from no sleep. Although the idea of the hosting was to do reselling for an existing source, but also decided it doesn't look good when you find out your host is actually only the middle-man reseller of another you were not aware of.

And thanks for the comment :) I know of some people who sat at their computer for quite awhile listenting to the loop of the tune...my friend told me he sat there for like a half hour once...lol

Anyways, I better get back to work here; so much to do yet ;)

I moved my dedicated servers to a new datacenter and got me a new admin and it just ROCKS! No downtime and pages loading so fast now. If anyone is looking for a great admin, let me know, he really is the best!
